3. Smokey (Tennessee)

Smokey is a lovable mascot who isn't afraid to protect itself.
In 2006, Smokey IX allegedly bit former Alabama wide receiver Mike McCoy after he fell on Smokey during warmups. Whether or not the bite drew blood is apparently up for debate.
Eight years later, the same dog "nipped" Volunteers backup long snapper Matt Giampapa, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
But then, you just take a look at that face, and everything is OK again. The current edition of the bluetick coonhound is Smokey X.

Smokey is A number 1, but that damned War Eagle is pretty damned cool.

Back in 09 after the Bama game, my brother and I was walking back to the car. When I saw Smokey, I walk up to him like he was my own and he didn't bite or even act like he didn't want me to pet him.

That made up for my double loss. The game and the bet I had with a work friend.

Time to settle the score and right the ship.

Uga always on these lists and don't know why. Several schools have a bulldog mascot and I just can't respect a dog that can get sick from it's own boogers and is constantly shown laying on ice in a crate or house...

Might be just my disdain for the average Georgia fan though. Have always had more problems out of them then any other fan base at games by far

#4 The horse is not the mascot. The Indian is. Kinda lame. Big Red is better than an Indian. Maybe he could ride a horse.

But in this college PC climate, not sure how long the Indian will last.

I'm good with the list, other than UGA and AtM's collie. The horses (whether official mascots or not) are all beautiful animals and it's hard to argue with a buffalo, a longhorn steer, an Eagle and a Tiger as mascots.

As dogs go....it's hard to beat a blue tick hound for a mascot. It's not only a beautiful dog, it's different.
