1. UF, 3. AU, 5. Bama, 6. LSU

If you can't get excited about Dooley, could you stop watching UT football and go dog sweater shopping? -yes

I'm still struggling to be excited about the Dooley hire.

A man of character? Sure.
A man of good moral fiber? Ok, sure.
A man of class? Fine.
A man who salvaged a signing class under tough circumstances? Ok.

What I don't know is what kind of classes can be landed soley by Dooley's work. Am I willing to give him a chance? Yes.

I feel very nervous about 3 to 5 yrs from now.
I feel that Bama and Florida are going to consistently land top 5 classes year over year, and if Dooley cannot consistently sign Top 5 classes year over year, then we are going to struggle.

It remains to be seen, but if Dooley and staff is every bit as good as Saban and staff or Meyer and staff, then (all else equal) it seems to me that the difference in competitivenss will boil down to recruiting classes and depth.

Like I said, I'm willing to give the guy a chance, but this must be what Carolina fans feel like. ....(except that Carolina fans just KNOW they're going to suck...)....

Go ahead and flame away...

Just seems like a fan that is worried about his teams future.Comes on here asking a few questions that really cant be answered, and he get bashed to hell and back.WTF volnation?

How else should you respond to "I'm willing to give the guy a chance, but this must be what Carolina fans feel like"? IMHO that's WTF

:fireworks:
The day was great, I enjoyed it. I figured when we started it was to good to be true. We came out of today with a better team for this coming year. The fireworks are gone. We go with what we have. What happened today is only a beginning. A team is no better than the coaching staff, and the coaching staff is no better than the team. = T e a m.:baloon::td:

worried is how they feel,,anyone here not worried about the uncertainly around TN football right now?

Clearly you know you deserve flaming, don't you?

Dooley gets a top ten class with 2 weeks of recruiting!!!

And you are whining about that? Are you kidding me?

I was worried, REAL worried. But after listening to Dooley and watching the way he carrries himself, and seeing him pull Rogers, Hunter and Stone, I'm pumped. I was honestly way more worried with the low-class tactics of the last staff.

This is Tennessee and I think Dooley is going to represent our University very well. There is definitely uncertainty, but there is also a renewed sense of Vol Pride and I'll take that over fog machines, secondaries, and supposed "swagger" by a left-coast low-class back-stabber every day and twice on Saturday.

No one knows how many recruiting titles or SEC titles Dooley is going to ring in. But I can say that I like our chances a lot better now with CDD at the healm. So, respectfully, I don't feel anything like a Carolina fan, not one bit.

It takes two to tango and I don't believe there will be anyone who wants to dance with this negative nancy. Good grief.

I Actually got to see first hand the type of work this man is capable of. Living about 40 minutes from la tech, the new of his accomplishments came pretty quickly. The fact is, he turned the program at la tech around completely. And he did so with average type players. He's really a coach that is capable of turning an average player into a great player. I look forward to watching him in action this season.

Florida seems to have gotten almost as many Rivals 4* recruits than we signed overall...

Edit to add: I suppose my point is, if it's like this year over year for the next 4 or 5 years, can we still be competitive with the UFs and Bamas?

Are you actually serious??? The man had less than 3 weeks!! The whole program was in danger of a major meltdown and Dooley came in and held it together. Cut a guy a break...or better yet, find another team to root for and another board to post on.

I'm not trying to compare this year's class to Bama and UF's class...

I'm asking what if the trend continues over the next several years?

No, we don't know if Bama/UF will continue that trend for sure.
No, we don't know if Dooley will be good, bad, or ugly over the next few years.

I'm asking folks to speculate .... IF the trend continued like this, do we or do we not remain competitive with Bama and UF?

So far, the most logical response I've seen has been the guy who suggested that there was really very little difference between #1 and #10 signing class.

I remember UT winning alot of February Recruiting championships over the past 2 decades yet only 2 SEC titles came from it.

These things are cyclical. Did you think UT would ever beat Florida again after Sept. of '93, '94, '95, '96, or '97?

Chillax. Too many fans and alumni allowed the program to be run into the ditch. Towing it out of the ditch and getting up to speed is a process and it will take time.

VOLNBAMA has it right, coaching is the biggest factor considering that the talent among TN, Bama, FLA, LSU, etc. is fairly consistent. Also, Saban went 6-6 his first season if I remember correctly. Given the mess DD inherited, how could you not be excited?

To answer your question: Yes.

This question can be more seriously debated exactly one year from today. After DD has a full staff in place. After he has had a chance to recruit under normal circumstances rather than salvage mode. And after kids get a chance to see how he and his staff put a product on the field and he carries himself and the university. :good!:

well he has assembled a good staff and finished with a recruiting class almost as good a what x would have done before he screwed us. Evil nick let him coordinate his recruiting and he is arguably the best college coach/most tireless worker/biggest control freak on the planet. He was smart enough to get a great dc, he kept a great oc and kept the two time national recruiter of the year on staff.

I can really see why you are worried, and by that I mean you are clueless to be whining like a little girl right now.... He has passed the two challenges put in front of him so far with flying colors and your sitting there whining, "but I'm sssoooo wwwooorrriiied about three years.....". Pitiful

Tango no need to flame, we can just sit back and laugh. Richt had top 10 classes year after year and could not win. Boise State had nowhere close to the talent of Oklahoma, or Oregon and Wilcox beat them.

If we stay around the top 10 for the next 4 years and develop these players right we can beat everyone on our schedule.

Oddly enough... I think it depends on UGA. If he can compete on equal terms with UGA for Georgia talent then I think that will enable him to keep up. I have been saying for awhile that UT's championship talent has to come from Upstate SC and GA. Beyond that, he needs to build a real fence around TN and find every diamond in the rough there is between Bristol and Memphis.

Do I think he will keep up rankings wise according to Rivals? Maybe not. But what do you think is the real difference between the #1 class and #5 class?

UT has had two consecutive top 10 classes. They need one more and it needs to include some serious OL and DT talent.

I've been saying for years that Tennessee's most important rivalry in a realpolitik sense is with UGA. Both schools have at least two bigger traditional rivalries, but really, it's a zero-sum game between the two schools. It's not a coincidence that Fulmer's reign at Tennessee began circling around the bowl at precisely the same time that Georgia hired Mark Richt. Kiffin at least had that one right.

I didn't know it before I wrote it earlier.... and didn't have any premonitions months ago when I began saying it.... BUT CDD said basically the same thing I did about UT recruiting. Said they had to get players from GA and put a fence around TN to include Memphis.

I just don't see any realistic way that any UT coach is going to be able to build a fence that includes Memphis. It's just too far away and too ingrained with all those programs from the SEC West. I'd be happy if the fence went so far as to include all of those Nashville-area players that always seem to head south to Alabama and Auburn. I think the best we can hope for out of Memphis, at least in the realistic near future, is to have a consistent finger in the pie. Keep the TN guys everywhere else, get a few guys out of Memphis, build a consistent presence in Atlanta and north Georgia, and always have someone on staff who can recruit Florida -- there's your foundation.

Georgia is key and always has been. Think 98. Think Jamal Lewis, cosey Coleman, Deon grant. Thank you rodney garner! Memphis is tough being so close to alabama but we should be doing much better there. Don't forget sc. It's another close talent rich area. I don't remember all the names but the 98 team had a bunch from there also.

How about trying to address the question I asked?

I admit i just got home from a night of drinking $1 draws, but wtf is your question? I re-read your post a couple of times...I don't see a question...I just see you being a whiney lil beotch. What more do you want and/or expect from CDD in such a short period of time...seriously?

CDD is our coach.....he's nailed down a top 10 recruiting class within a 2.5 week time period...now let the man coach...then you can open your piehole!

Can we hang with UF and UA? Aren't they the two teams we came pretty close to beating this year. There was a time when those two schools asked the same question about keeping up with us.
