To me throughout the game on defense, players looked in good position, covering assignments, just a step to slow to make the play. I’d like to believe the players were doing their best to trust in the new system and do their jobs. To me we didn’t look a mess on defense like last year. We were just a step to slow. Something that over time gets corrected or better with experience. Only #28 looked lost to me. Thoughts?

Hard to imagine guys playing to their potential or speed the first game into a new system...

Most everyone looked slow...

Speed, tackling and getting off blocks should all improve with familiarity of the system...

Not to say we don’t need to see some fresh faces in spots...we do!

Did Kongbo play? Serious question as I don't recall seeing #1 on the field except calloway

I saw Kongbo the recipient of a good ol' blindsided block while chasing somebody. That was about it.

I thought the same thing. We did not seem to have the "SEC speed" that is always so hyped when the SEC hits bowl season....of course, we did not participate in bowl season last year.

Not sure everyone knows the team stats are posted on UTSports (University of Tennessee Athletics). I saw them today when looking for how the defenses compared. I normally rely on ESPN or some other site.

This one was interesting:
TN - 4 tackles for loss resulting in 11 yards
WVU - 12 tackles for loss resulting in 31 yards

Is 28 Flowers? He must be a true freshman. He wasn't playing with confidence. But he didn't do much to help with that either.

I dont know anything about looking one second slow or whatever, we did not look like a good team. We looked like a bad team we, used to losing big games, with a rookie head coach.

Watching the WV game made me wonder if the coaches even allow the guys to make plays in practice. That is a crazy thing to say, but I'll swear there were times when a guy was in position and totally failed to make his move at the time the play had to be made. I know that new players have to adjust to the speed of the game. Even Osbourne whiffed on knocking a ball carrier out of bounds when he could have. It's as if they wait for their opponent to make his move instead of taking him down, and then get burned.

25 was flowers who is a Safety.... 28 is Buchnan who is a Corner..... JeeeZzz we have people commenting on guys and don't even know their dang numbers or positions......

Then put their input in.... About the wrong player.... Just ridiculous.... Obviously you didn't even watch the game if you don't know the guys number....

But but but look at the 40 times from when they were recruited.
