#1 Reason Freeze should NOT be hired!

Hugh is a one and done OC! We will sign at least 3 OL that will play next year and they will be better than what we had this year. The entire team will be better. The bottom is 7-5. He will get offered HC at AU, FSU and we'll be doing this dance again. Lindsey will be here a few years, his numbers are almost as good and we need continuity!

We can always hire say someone like Cam Cameron then you couldn't run him off with a s**ty mop.

I am thankful that we gave this reason its own thread......this is the first time I'm hearing this as a reason not to hire him. Thank you OP.

He’ll still get offers after 1 year even if we don’t have a great season because he’s a winner with a proven track record. Schools are desperate for good coaches.

Sure he will get offers. But he has to look at his career this way. Leave after 1 year with so so results at TN for a Memphis like job or maybe some Power 5 Big 12/Pac 12 gig. Sure that's enticing. However, stay 2-3 years at TN and do well? He will have big shot offers within the SEC. Think about it this way, what head coach is likely to be gone in the SEC in the next 2-3 seasons? Chad Morris likely, LSU could be an opening (I think Coach O is a season by season judgement), South Carolina could decide to move on and Vandy/UK could move on from current coaches.

Staying a coordinator in the SEC would give him the best shot at a big time head coaching gig. Leaving after one year to go to some middle of the road Power 5 school doesn't help him. Also as OC, he only has to do half the job of the head coach. Seriously doubt he'd rather go to some Group of 5 school for a few seasons and then try to jump.

I don't think he will take the Petrino path. That's evident by his interviewing for OC gigs.

Freeze doesn't need offensive success this year to get an offer. Just a year of good behavior.

His offensive resume will get him a job regardless of how Tenneessee plays in 2019 should he be hired by us.

Arkansas, Vandy, South Carolina, Kentucky? What part of that is "big shot offers"?

And what did you thing the bottom was this year?
7-5 will be closer to the top next year than the bottom. 8 wins is best case. I would take Freeze provided he commits to a 2-yr deal (huge buyout if he leaves after yr. 1).

Those jobs are equals to the Ole Miss job..... Also, are you of the belief that if Freeze got offered a SEC head coaching gig at above schools vs other middle of the road schools in the other power conferences, he would avoid taking a SEC head coaching gig?

Also, those schools would more than likely pony up the cash to offer Freeze a big deal. That would be a big shot offer.

When I opened this thread, I thought that the #1 reason would be that someone was complaining about his grammar...

Anyone can pony up cash today. Lower tier SEC schools aren't "big shot offers".

I don't think Freeze would turn down a Power 5 school offer at the end of 2019 in the hopes that Vanderbilt may offer in 2021 which is the scenario you laid out.

Freeze won't take a head coaching job outside of the SEC. If he does, everyone would be extremely shocked. Coming to UT as OC and waiting it out for 2-3 years positions him best to get back into the SEC. And yes, he would very much take the Vandy job if offered unless he was getting other SEC offers at the same time. He took the Ole Miss job and there isn't much separating those two.

You should take the advice of Louis Grizzard. Instead of getting married, "find a woman you don't like and give her a house."

Grizzard...one of a kind...still can't find anyone to take his place but if I keep looking on here I could get closer...:D
