Must not fear having a reputation you have built up over the years destroyed....

That is why it is so difficult for Tennessee to hire a big time coach....They know they could be throwing away all the good they have built up over the years....

That is why I doubt any big names come to Tennessee.
They want a safe bet

Explain better..

These so called big time coaches worry about their reputations as great coaches being diminished if they should fail at Tennessee....Lots and Lots of pressure to win right away at Tennessee....These big time coaches prefer areas of a safe bet....for instance lets say a great recruiting base to choose from...they fear failure so they want to make sure all the components are in place for success first before they consider the job...no lateral moves for a big time coach....Look for the Mike Norvell type

Second Tier targets know the Tennessee job would be a big boost for them and why not, they have nothing to lose....big time coaches have to big of a reputation to protect...they are not taking a lateral position

IMO the next coach should not be learning how to coach with the big dogs while he is here. Kiffin, Dooley, and Butch were learning on the job and that is where the AD screwed up with those hires.

I want a guy that knows football. We don't need a guy that is good with the press or boosters. We need a guy that can evaluate talent, make good use of said talent, and manage a game from start to finish.

I want a HC that is a defensive guru that is smart enough to hire a solid OC.

We parted ways with Butch due to losses.

Alabama had nearly the same rep when NS was hired. They were awful and had escaped major ncaa penalties...like always lol.

UT just needs a coach that is proven to field a fundamentally good football team and develop players. Once that is show, the recruiting will follow, aided by assistants that are good recruiters.

It's clear he's talking about Gruden not being a puss and worrying about if the fans will turn on him if he sucks somehow in college.

I hope our next coach doesn't care about any of that and just gives their all for Tennessee and that's all we can ask for whether it's Gruden or someone else

Alabama was fertile ground for big name recruiting...Alabama was looked on as a prized job
Big time coaches doesnt see things as we think they should

One of the qualifications should be censored press conferences..... I can't take another coach that has "butchisms"

Tennessee is as well. There is talent here now. A coach will look at the situation and think they can win right away.

That's why you should look for someone like Mike Norvell...no big time coaches making a lateral move imo

I wouldn't say every great coach. The big name head coaches that are already established at good football programs? Yea, I doubt they're coming.

There's great coaches in the coordinator ranks, or head coaches at smaller programs looking to move up. Or maybe an NFL coordinator/position coach that's looking for a new opportunity.
