1 play every 18 seconds

Our first two drives of the game averaged a play every 15 seconds. That's preparedness!

And only 5 penalties for 45 yards in a season opener, while running 88 offensive plays? Much, much improved over last year!

I watched a lot of teams self destruct on offense today, penalties, unforced turnovers, etc. Vols execution early was sharp as was the defensive play for the most part.

CJH's goal is to run a play in 10 seconds. There were many times our team was set well before 10 seconds. We snapped at 10 seconds a lot. Very encouraging considering it is the first game. Minimal penalties is also a good sign. We have a good coach. I hope his coaching translates to wins this season and a stronger program overall.

People aren't taking into account that the offense fell apart when Cooper Mayes went down in the 2nd qtr. He may not be our best offensive lineman, but he was the most important one because he makes all the calls at the line for blocking assignments. I hope his injury isn't serious, but it may be a blessing in disguise because we will be more prepared now.

Adding to your point, in the 2nd quarter BG started waiting for us to set our offense before they called in their defense from the sideline.

But this coaching staff made successful adjustments during halftime to neutralize that.

Off topic, but I came away very impressed with BG's quarterback and coaching--especially considering how many freshmen they were playing! Hope they do well this season.

The old speed up offense was unique when it first came about a few years ago. Like all gimmicks (recall the goofy signs Chip Kelly's Oregon team utlized and other programs copied for a time?) defense catch up and account for them. The hurry up make their tongues hanging out offenses are as doomed as the triceratops. We're already seeing it across the college football landscape as so many have picked up the gimmick it's not all that effective any longer. UT has a history of hanging on to what used to be successful (utilizing the single wing when most had moved to the T offense, how great was the Fulmer/Bama offense Pruitt put on the field) while everybody has stuff for it figured out and has moved on, Heupel hanging his hat on the gimmick that worked a few years ago is just par for the course IMO. Chip Kelly dumped the gimmicks and figured out he has to put bigger faster meaner players on the field if he wanted to compete.

This. My biggest concern is depth for this team. I hope all stays healthy this season. I appreciate all men in orange and are giving this team their all! GBO!

The team looked a lot more disciplined than last year. I was impressed by the lack of false starts, especially it being the 1st game and a whole new scheme. We also didn't give up a bunch of free yards jumping offsides all the time.

Even BG knows how to deal with it. Just have guys hit the turf feigning an injury or cramp. Pretty simple to slow things down. I'm sure we'll see a lot of it going forward.
