2011 recruit Tony Wroten Jr just sent a message on Twitter that says he has spoken to Marquis Teague and he will be going to Kentucky. Wroten loves to Tweet and while Drew Franklin may be correct that he isnt a person to tell secrets to, if correct, it is our first case of one recruit breaking another’s commitment publically that I have ever heard.

We wont know for sure until the press conference, but Wroten quotes his friend Teague…so it looks like UK.

The press conference isn't until tomorrow at 1:30, and obviously anything can happen. It should be noted that Evan Daniels and even the frosted flake have reported this to be the case as well.

This is viewed by some as a back breaker for Pitino, who has spent over two years visiting this kid personally ever chance he got, and all but had the kids committment locked up before Cal knocked on the door. He also went as far as hiring one of the kids previous assistant coaches, to help seal the deal. With Chandler decommitting, and now possibly losing teague, that 2011 monster class UL was working on is falling by the way side. There are still good players in that class, but this is a major blow, IMO. Another axe to grind in the Calipari/Pitino saga.

(if true.... of course)

monster '11 class Cal has coming in. If he can get Miller, Wroten, and Chandler then might as well give the trophy to Kentucky.

Wonder why Wroten would do that to Teague.

I wondered the same thing. One might think that since they are supposedly good friends, he would know better than to do such a thing. Of course, there is always the chance that Teague knew about it and didn't mind. Or of course the other option, is that they are playing some type of game.

I find it weird that he would do that, but the whole twitter thing will continue adding stories like this to the news. It can't be stopped.

If things work out like it appears they will, he will have 4 of the top 7 players in the country in that class.

But you can't hand over any trophy to Kentucky because of a freshman class. Best example being this years team.

I said it a month ago, I'll say it again. Pitino should take the Rutgers job and get a fresh start. Teague spurning the 'Ville for UK would simply accentuate that.

Indeed. I think he should have packed the bags the moment he had a chance. One thing thats for certain, is that the 'Ville is almost in full breakdown/cry it out mode. Their fans emotions right now range from rage to pure shock.

Shoot, I'd go to Oregon if I were Pitino and they would offer it. Good money and after a few years retire to FL and wear nylon jumpsuits all day.

Teague will be a one and done player whether he has a good year or not. You can take that to the bank.

Yeah, I agree. My main point in presenting this is to point out the significance of this decision. Another one and done PG for Cal is nothing new. Its the detrimental nature of what it causes for Pitino and UL. They have put almost ALL of their chips in on this kid. Even if he only stayed there for one year as well, he is still a huge loss for Ricky as he tries to salvage whats left of a program thats slowly falling apart, along with his reputation in the social and recruiting circles.

You're a good guy, Hardwood, but this stuff is getting a little ridiculous and very shady. Calipari isn't the only great recruiter in the NCAA and he's basically getting whomever he wants.

Most disturbing to me in relation to Teague is that Louisville has spent two years into getting this kid, but the kid verbals to UK after not much effort from Cal, not visiting Lexington (may have taken an unofficial last fall) and, reportedly, receiving a phone call from LeBron. The same LeBron who has become an honorary UK alum under Cal and just signed John Wall to his agency two minutes following Wall declaring for the draft. I won't even get into WWW.

As a Tennessee fan, obviously I'm not going to like the Wildcats. However, under Pitino and Tubby, I certainly respected UK. Now, Calipari could win the next 10 titles and I wouldn't have an ounce of respect for how it went down.

I agree, but I can't imagine he would do it. He has been jonesing for a new arena since his KY days...and he finally got one.

Congrats to him. Now more people can taunt him about Karen Sypher.

A lot of shady deals going on in K-Y land. Play with fire long enough, you get burnt. Just ask UMASS, Memphis, and the NJ Nets.

Well, its official, Teague IS A CAT. Moving on....

As for Cal, I'm no blind blue goggled follower. I have the same reservations, and the same dark thoughts that conjure up all sorts of theories and ideas, some of which are probably true. I'm not of the belief that Cal is 100% pure, nor will I ever be.

However, while I don't let the guy completely off the hook, I do believe many people (critics and rival fans) help turn this into a frantic case of "perception is fact". Cal is obviously a politician, who is able to recruit people into his corner and his "brand". The whole thing with Lebron makes perfect sense. Placing 4 straight point guards in the lottery after one season is quite the reason to spurn Little Ricky and play for Cal.

The whole notion that families are getting bentley's and $$$ is changing hands right and left, is ridiculous. Is there something going on somewhere that has some fringe benefits, perhaps and probably so.

I can't control it, and as a fan all I can do is ride the ship and hope to hell it doesn't sink.

I love that people are whining about Cal's connections and the unfairness of it all. Scott Drew hired one of the Clifton brothers to get John Wall. Pitino hired one of Teague's coach/advisors to a position he essentially created. The bottom line is that Cal has run off an unprecedented string of 30 win seasons, put the best rookie into the league the last two seasons, playing basketball at Kentucky is arguably the best gig in college sports, and John is so much more media and marketing shrewd than his competitors it's not funny. Kentucky is the program of the moment in recruiting and it's not close. It's not Cal's fault he is associated with the most powerful force in hoops today and the best his competitors can do is latch on to B listers like Larry Marshall and the Pump Brothers.

My thoughts exactly, though with just a small hint of reservation.

I can understand this sentiment. I remember just recently that I was reluctantly riding the Lane Train. I also don't think that Cal is stupid enough to hand out cash or cars. I do think there is some quid pro quo, wink-wink stuff going on between Cal, WWW and LeBron.

I knew the resident Cal-slurper wouldn't be long to arrive, with the requisite back handed slap to Pearl. I particularly love the part about "putting his best rookie into the league", as if Cal had anything to do with guys playing in the NBA that would've been top 5 picks after their senior year of high school.

Like I said, hiring of coached isn't the most reputable thing, but it's pretty standard. The association with LeBron and his marketing agency, plus the issues of WWW make this situation different than the others.

And, for all the Cal adulation hat serves up, Cal is not nearly as successful as a number of more highly regarded coaches in the business.

Hey, anyone who doesn't have the stomach for how the recruiting game is played now can always choose to stand on their principles and distance themselves from AAU guys and "handlers." Look how well that's worked out for Gary Williams the last five years.
