#1 LADY VOLS Soccer Thread ⚽️ Next Up, Tennessee @ Mizzou 9/18 8pm SEC+

IMG_9287.jpeg

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 1 Tennessee soccer team dropped its SEC opener, 3-2 at Mississippi State Friday night.

Despite the result, sophomore forward Anaiyah Robinson registered a brace for the Lady Vols (6-1-1) after making her first start of the season. Robinson also took six shots as Jenna Stayart logged five.

Ally Perry turned in a brace for State (6-1-0) and secured the game-winner for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State struck first in the 11th minute after Perry and Adia Simmons found Zoe Main to put the Bulldogs up early.

The rest of the opening frame didn't see another score as State entered the break with the 1-0 advantage.

Roughly eight minutes into the second half, Robinson put two quick ones on the board for the Big Orange to take the lead.

Robinson's first score came in the 53rd minute after Stayart found her in the box. She quickly scored UT's second and final goal of the night just two minutes later after Luciana Latino served it to Keaton Mitchell who headed it to Robinson.

Roughly 19 minutes later, Perry leveled the match for State with a left-footed kick in the top of the goal.

Perry then secured the match for the Bulldogs with an 89th minute score.

Tennessee concluded the game with 14 shots as State logged 11.

UP NEXT: UT will head to Missouri for its second SEC contest. The match will take place at 7 p.m. ET. Thursday.

I don't know how ours compares to what other teams/schools post in social media, but from all we've seen posted here, there is a consistent message of closeness, community, camaraderie, and always having fun with each other.

In the context of recruiting, I think maybe it's the subtle difference between "come be a Lady Vol" and "come join us."

For the recruit, that's the difference between taking on a team's identity as your own, or exploring your authentic individual identity among mutually supportive teammates, seemingly marked by positive energy. And that's going to naturally appeal to girls who have more maturity, and who have a positive base identity.

I wonder if that's why we're seeing so many athletes who are Christians. Without some kind of identity that's anchored to someOne and something bigger than yourself, these are incredibly difficult times for a adolescent to navigate.

The normative task of adolescence--"Who am I?"--seems impossibly difficult when every aspect of self-image has become both terribly public, and radically self-determined--to the extent that one might assume sovereignty over one's own biological identity.

In that kind of cultural chaos, it seems to me these girls shine like a beacon of hope. IMHO.

Love this. The team is unique compared to others because of all the things you described. It’s been growing year after year. It’s that reputation of community, closeness and fun that has contributed to Tennessee getting to pick and choose the best recruits and the reason Joe is bringing the best talent in the portal as well.

IMO the 2026 class will be one of the best yet for the Lady Vols.

And the reason so many picked Tennessee for 27.

I love dense, concise presentations of data. But I'm clueless on this one.

What value is being indicated in the # columns? Is that the number of commitments?
And what's the significance of the highlighted cells? I'll hang up
side down and listen.

🙃

I didn’t even notice the highlights.

Actually I did notice the highlights but didn’t think anyone would notice.

Actually I thought one specific person might notice but wouldn’t say anything.

Actually I was sure they would say something and thought maybe I need to get rid of those highlights.

Yes, the number of verbal commitments for 2027.

My daughter was a courtesy recruit in the 2025 class. She's a 5'4 GK, so UT was never going to be a realistic option. She was a keeper for OneKnox's Academy team, 18UDPL team, and has trained some with Zazz, so they were very honest, but kind and reassuring to her. Coach Baker and Coach Morgan are two of the finest humans we met during the recruiting process. Coach Baker still spoke to her long after she had made her commitment to a D2 school. Cayden Norris is the best women's keeper I've ever seen in person. Daughter was in the same high school region and had some slugfests with her...managed to win 1 regional title and drew her Norris' senior year on a 22 save, 0-0. If you're a Lady Vol soccer fan, be ready, because I don't think they're slowing down anytime soon. I've never met Coach Joe, but I honestly think he's putting together a program that's going to look a lot like Tony V and the Basevols...and he's always going to have elite GKs.

HAHAHA! My first LOL of the day! (I am soooo guilty as charged.) Thanks, bro!

Life Lesson for everyone: If you do your due diligence and clean it up before you go public, you won't have to suffer BO.
