My great, great, great grandfather was the first Governor of Florida(Andrew Jackson Donelson). His aunt , Rachel Donelson Jackson was quoted as saying "10,000 acres of this infested swampland is worth but 1 acre of our fine Tennessee land." I ask you VOLNATION how many VOL fans are 10,000 florida fans worth? Bring the heat on this one

Andrew Jackson Donelson negotiated Texas into the U.S. in 1855. The vols were playing football already. It wasn't very organized and no records were kept. Women played too, occasionally. The civil war took away all of the good players

Smart woman, that Rachel. 10,000 gator fans has no value what-so-ever!

I read about this, Davy Crockett was there and he had to leave at half time for the Alamo, he was so updet about going that he could'nt fight. That is why he is at every game, to see the half he missed

You know Rocky Top is good stuff..but that bottom land is richer is what Sgt.York was told by his mama back in the day. Swampland is for gatorboys that like to hunt for slimy reptiles and shoot'em in the head. Rachel Jackson was a very smart lady when she said those famous words that Donvolson quoted.

Eventhough Davy hated Andrew Jackson and his approach to the native americans, here is a cool story of two iconic Vols/Tennesseans. I love this story, and isn't a widely known story at that.
