09 CA S Byron Moore - UT Commit

If the staff wants 4 safeties, then that's what I want. Maybe they saw a secondary this year play against Julio Jones, AJ Green, Alshon Jeffery and who allowed UNC to drive the field in 20 seconds. Not to mention that gave up over 400 yards passing to UAB.

ding ding ding ding!
We have a winner!

I wasn't saying 4 safeties would be a bad thing for any class or this one necessarily. I mean by what we personally as UT have left on our board. I look at it much like the NFL draft. Sometimes you have to go for the best left on the board over a position of need. If we were still in on someone like a Karlos Williams or a Clinton-Dix I would be fine with a 4th safety. I just don't believe that Orta is a talent enough to warrant a spot when we have players such as Tiny, Clear, Dawson, Wright, Lane, Moore, Maggitt, Fulse, Johnson, etc. still on the board especially since we already have 2 and will possibly have 3 committed safeties. I just don't think the need or talent is there right now to warrant a spot IMO. If we miss on Moore then I think it would become a need and he would be a take. That's just my opinion though. I have complete trust in the staff and that they will do what's best for the team.

This dude is a Cane, and I think our coaches already know it. Maybe that is why they took Lanier all of a sudden?

I disagree.....our coaches are still riding him hard. Sounds like he is really comfortable with Dooley and Wilcox. Miami will definitely push hard on depth, but i believe he wants to be a Vol. We won't really know til NSD though.

This comment is completely false. Moore and Lanier have absolutely nothing to do with each other. The staff has wanted both for months and both fill a huge need.

I do think Orta is a backup plan at this point. No way do I see them taking him if they get Moore.

Just a guess, but if we suddenly get a commitment from Orta then that probably means Moore has chosen UM. Until that point (OR until the LOI is faxed in), the Lanier commitment doesn't tell us anything about what Moore's gonna do.

Orta could come into play if they show Loften the door.

That's what I'm thinking. Although at some point you would think you'd stop taking so many safeties in one class to where it will effect your ability to recruit one in the next few recruiting classes. My guess is some guys simply have some serious academic issues besides Loften for them to continue recruiting so many safeties.

Is it safe to assume if we land:

Richardson
Clear
Wright
Lane
Dawson

Sign and Place
Dunaway

that we aren't going to take another safety. I realize we won't completely stop recruiting them, but unless we want Moore as a corner I don't see the need for another safety in this class. Could we sign and place Loften?

Woodland Hills Taft High School DT Antwaun Woods, who lives in Los Angeles, says he's friends with Rashad Wadood, Jason Gibson, David Moala, George Farmer, Marqise Lee, Patrick Onwuasor and even JUCO DB Byron Moore.

Woods says he's spoken with all of the above recruits and that all are tentatively scheduled to be at UM together this weekend.

"I know them all," Woods said. "We talk about Miami, just say that its Miami, a good place, all the history with Miami."

That's a bummer. It is looking Moore and Moore like Byron will be a Cane. I guess we can assume Orta will be a take now if that's the case. Also 1% Cortez could visit with Lane like we already talked about. I had previously stated I didn't think Orta would be a take, but with Loften (grades) not looking promising to make it in, Moore looking like UM, and P. Martin needing a better test score then it looks like he def would. Good find MikeD...well not for us UT fans.

"He's told Oregon State's coaches that he won't be coming there and he plans on deciding between Miami and Tennessee sometime next week."

the coaches are not as confident right now as they were 4 ot 5 weeks ago. if they have heard or been told something by moore, i dont know what it is.

he is buying "tha u" from his pops and everyone around him.

I bet he is all but theirs after his visit this weekend.

At this point we just have to hope something rubs him the wrong way while he is down there.

our facilities and campus blows ums away, hopefully that will come into play. not to mention they have to travel 20 minutes or so to the stadium.

Exactly but I am sure the coaches concern is the time between Moore's visit and signing day, how fresh will those things be in Moore's mind when he is making he decision compared to the visions of Sean Taylor and Ed Reed dancing in his head.

Skeeter, in your opinion, if we don't land Moore does the staff go after another DB or use that spot on a higher rated player in another area of need?

i know they want moore badly, they feel he would come in and contribute right away. tey think randolph is a guy that will play soon as well, they plan to add weight and make him a safety. the concern with martins frame is that he'll add to much weight to be a db and could end up at lb.

He did say at one time he wants to play in the SEC and knowing he could pretty much start when he gets here has got to help us out on this one.:crossfingers:
