09 CA S Byron Moore - UT Commit

CB - Waggner, Teague, Gordon, Lanier, Coleman, Oliver, Anderson
S - Jackson, Brewer, Moore, Randolph, Martin

Assuming that we get Moore and Thomas drops off (not necessarily strong assumptions on either), and assuming Meline moves back to WR, I think this is about where our secondary stands. Also assuming Evans is gone for good (too bad - we could use him). I ordered them according to how I guess it will shake out as far as the depth chart is concerned.

I was hoping we'd be able to redshirt someone, but it doesn't look like a possibility.

1. Find a dictionary.
2. Look up "sarcasm"
3. Familiarize yourself with the definition contained within said dictionary.

With the amount of codyg's there are on here am I just supposed to know that everyone isn't a complete idiot?

If you give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are being sarcastic than good for you.. I can't do that.

I don't doubt he's an excellent corner. It's hard to say he'd be the best or one of the best, but he'd be talented no doubt. I just find it hard to believe that the coaches would move a guy who has already proven himself as an elite safety to cornerback.

The word in LA is that Moore will commit to the Vols. There was an issue with transferring credits, making him questionable at UM. TIFWIW.

If he were to play CB I think it would take him out of more plays. I know that's a very general statement, but as a safety he'd have more opportunities to make plays.

So assuming JJ is moved to corner. I believe that secondary would be the strong point of the defense. I believe that Gordon and Teauge with their experience will be solid next year along with Lanier and Brewer(who needs to improve imo.) Is Byron Moore a day one starter?

He's naturally a CB. We couldn't really cover a top WR last season. That would have changed had we had a guy like Moore to pair with Jackson. Moore allows us to move a guy like Jackson back to CB. He played FS because he was our best player in the secondary and the only one the coaches trusted to hold up the back end of the defense. With Moore and some of the other guys we can at least try to move Jackson unless they just blow coverage after coverage. Also Brewer will have a breakout year next season mark my words.

Jackson will play and star at CB at the next level. He would be a true shut down corner at the collegiate level. You rarely see them at this level and he would be an even bigger asset defensively at corner, provided we pick up a very good safety.

As often as teams play in the nickel, it is great o have such flexibility as JJ, Lanier, Mooore who all could play safety and corner in regular defenses, but could lock up with the slot in the nickel.

No. I usually just move on without jumping on with both feet. Not my job to police the boards. Others should practice doing the same.

I don't doubt any of this, but the fact of the matter is he's a safety and as been for 2 years. Things change and he may switch. Who knows.

Agree. With Moore secondary will be good. I believe Dooley redshirts alot of guys though since we haven't had the chance to last couple years. We are going go be hit hard by graduation in a couple years.

We're not in position to redshirt guys in the secondary.

how many freshman have u seen play that don't need to improve?

Without Moore, we have Gordon, Teague, Wagner, Oliver, Lanier and Anderson at corner. Unless we have a need for more then 6 corners some guys will redshirt.

Hard to argue with this. Several will redshirt I am sureo need to burn a year unless you can't avoid it.

CB - Moore
FS - JJ
SS - Brewer
CB - Lanier

Our secondary just improved drastically and just grew like 3 inches.
