09/21 Presser

My point was what would you expect the voice of Tennessee football to say.
:eek:k: Gotcha.

I'm not sure what I personally believe about Florida. I think we should have the better team but like everyone else I'm just going to have to wait until Saturday's proof is put on the field. I'm still thinking we're the team to beat until someone beats us. I'm confident you will likely see the best of the Florida football team and staff on Saturday and if we see the same from our side I think we blow them off the field. Seriously, I think we could be that good. Are we?

Talent wise I think UT is good enough to score more points than almost anyone expects in this game. UF has smothered their first 3 opponents... but those opponents just weren't very good. UF dominated athletically but facing an O with comparable athletes requires more than that.

Listening to the recording now:

Jones showed A LOT of restraint answering the question about Berry.

What was the question?

Basically why haven't we seen him as a wr.
Answer - lot of skirting the question but.. his body had to recover, always has to show more and we will see more and more of him.

I took the last part as they have plans but don't wish to make them known. But just a guess.

What was the question?

Pretty much, "why doesn't Berry get to play offense given his success returning kicks?" Jones then discusses how hard Berry has worked to get healthy and how valuable he is on the punt coverage team. Didn't say a single word that addresses the actual question.

It's this a peeve just with CBJ? Or doesit also ruffle you when Saban, Belicheck, et al do it?

I hope some of you, no, all of you understand that it's natural to play flat thus far

They played flat in two games. Those two games were against mid major programs sandwiched between the largest football game of all time. The best o lineman hasnt played a snap. I feel like no one is thinking ab these things. We got the best version of app st. and Ohio possible. I think Florida could be in trouble Sat. and a lot of you will have a changed tune

Until Butch Jones proves otherwise, yes. I have given him a lot of room to breath over the years and this start to the season has not provided me with any reason to be confident. Go ahead, tag me as a negavol, but I'm not going to pump sunshine when there hasn't been tangible proof of improvement. Show me results and I would be happy to support Butch enthusiastically. But talk is talk is talk until we beat someone other than UGA.

I'm pretty sure he has proven himself so far....I mean....5-7 to 7-6 to 9-4 to 3-0 so far this year. When we beat UF you better be back in here to receive your big ass plate of crow. You're just one of those fans that are never satisfied with anything.

He's saying even hasn't been 100% and he is protecting him a little but trying get him 100% it's how coaches talk.

Yep. People may not agree with the answer, but he answered it. It's like some here hate him so much they invent things to get their BVDs twisted about. It's comical. Emotions are a strange thing.

Nope. We're just discussing hypothetical possibilities and trying to correlate some of what we've seen from him.

I want him to prove he's a championship coach. I appreciate the fact that he's moved the program from where it was to where it is. But even Moses couldn't take the Israelites into the promised land.... It could be that UT needs its own Joshua to actually defeat its greatest enemies.

Yep. Moses led a bunch of ignorant cry-babies that couldn't recognize progress as well.

Given what we've seen on the field so far this season, what is your logic behind seeing something different this Saturday?

Sorry but no. Bama hasn't played "flat". tOSU hasn't played flat. Great teams don't play flat. They dominate the kinds of teams UT has played.

They can still turn it around.

It isn't just playing flat either. They've played very, very sloppy. Jones.... agrees with that assessment.

He lietarlly said, "Evan is still trying to get his legs."

In other words, he hasn't recovered to the extend, and goten his conditioning to the point, where he can carry more load.

You may disagree with him, but he gave an answer. Geez.

That, and he just didn't remotely answer it.

I've been as critical of Jones as anyone.... and I wouldn't have answered that question either.

I also think they should have moved Berry to RB two years ago so it isn't that I disagree with the question.... just the time, place, and tone of it.

That's something you ask in August... not in UF week.

What was the question?

My honest opinion is that a direct answer to the question would have had to be along the lines of "why don't you let us decide where a guy helps the team best". Instead, Jones deflected, praised Berry, and didn't give the press a "Jones is losing it" story.

I actually liked the way he handled that one... even though I think Berry has been wasted waiting his turn at S.

Butch: "Jarrad Davis was a 3*, now he is one of the nation's top LB's."

Really Butch....? Really? You are going to spend this presser defending your recruiting? I swear he cannot take any sort of criticism at all. Besides, we already have trouble as it is developing our 4* players. Give us tangible results. Stop defending yourself.

You find fault with a coach standing up for his players? Really VB........? Really?

No he didn't. He didn't answer it at all and simply pointing that out doesn't make one hate Butch Jones.

He was asked specifically about Evan playing on offense and he "answered" the question by talking about Berry working hard to get healthy and how well he plays on punt coverage.

It's not a big deal, most coaches do the same thing, don't answer questions directly. Not sure why a poster answering the question of another poster about what he said makes anyone a crybaby or hater.

I don't listen to Saban or Belichick pressers because I don't follow their teams being a Tennessee fan. In general, it's rare that a coach is really candid....I don't expect Jones or really any other coach outside the rare few to do so. I'm not particularly bothered by what Jones said today, just pointing out and trying to be factual about what Jones said when other posters have asked about it.

Wtf does that even mean. Disrespectful IMO and unnecessary. Guess you'll still despise him after a win this Saturday too??

It means he thinks hes the smartest man in the room

Reason he sometimes comes off the way he does at press conferences

He doesnt like people questioning his decisions, even when they are mind boggling at times

Its an easy observation
