I found it very disheartening that in mid-december my 13 yr old said that he did'nt care to watch any bowl games or football in general for the rest of the season. He's not a sore loser either...I made sure he was'nt masking a poor character trait. He simply said "my hearts just not in it and I don't care this year". I could'nt respond with any real wisdom 'cause I felt rung out and beat-up myself. I'm not going to bash Fulmer or the team or the staff in this post with the exception of this.....I hope a "seasoned veteran" coach learned the pee-wee league lesson of not opening their fat mouth before a contest.....enough said

Ut not getting a bowl took a lot of zip out of the end of the season for me. I watched two or three minor bowl games but didn't watch any of the BCS games. My heart just wasn't in it. The Panthers did pretty well and I did enjoy that last part of FB season. I really think I've had enough after last night and am looking forward to resting up for the 06-07 season. I'm down but I'll start getting the fever about mid July. I think this year was a crazy set of circumstances and believe next year will be a lot better for the Vols and Volnation.

Yep.....same here....and my son even went to another room to watch the post game last night( he watched a few bowls too). I guess 13 yr olds memories are as easy to heal as their bones. I still think this season made a memory file that will never be erased....that's a good thing. though. How will they ever appreciate success if they don't know failure. Sure, you learn it on the feild first-hand, but it helps to feel the sting in every area of life.
Still, I hope the exuberant Phil is replaced by the guardedly optimistic !!!

The one thing that stands out for me this year is the officiating, both on the college and professional levels. Refs on both levels screwed up. Terrible jobs all the way through the playoffs, and in numerous bowls (Nebraska vs. Michigan is still fresh in memory).

Also, this year I learned that talent don't mean jack. Tennessee had more talent than anybody in the country short of USC, but played with zero heart and lost as a result. Also good to be lucky. The Pittsburgh Steelers came into the NFL Playoffs as a six seed for a reason. They were not the best team in the NFL. But they banded together, played with heart and fate smiled upon them.

Interesting year... All in all, I'd say 80% personal dissappointment and 20% personal satisfaction for me in football this year, a majority of my favorite teams fell short of their goals. Still, we were blessed with some fantastic games on both levels. The Rose Bowl was a game for the ages.

My favorite bowl game was all the way back in the first week of December, my high school won the Blue Cross Bowl/3A State Championship.

Obviously the Vols and Titans' seasons were disappointments. Didn't expect much out of the Titans anyway.

The Rose Bowl was an incredible football game.

The only part of the NFL postseason that stands out in my mind as something I may remember years from now is the last 5 minutes of the Steelers/Colts game.

yeah good shout out tid. go wildcats.

rose bowl was incredible. the nfl playoffs this year went down hill, because the nfl was BLATANTLY trying to rig games.

last nights game was horrendous by the refs.

i didnt watch many bowl games either. thank god the b-ball team has stepped it up or last year would have been a depressing thing.

new year though and new possibilities, expectations and hopefully more success.

remember one thing. nascar starts this weekend folks. that ususally heals wounds for me. until jr hits the wall at least.

One of the Christmas presents my son wanted was B-ball tix.....We ended up going to the Lipscomb game and stayed for the CBP show. What an awesome experience!!!! Thank goodness for CBP....I want that same "Feel" for our football team. It has'nt been there.....EVER

Bowl season deffinitly didn't have quite as much of a spark as usual. I still watched a lot of the games, and rooted for Penn State in the Orange Bowl as a local team.

As for the NFL...I HATE THE STEELERS

Let's postpone FB one more week. At least we got the Pro Bowl, if you call that football. :)

It's more like, "Show up and play a few plays to justify the trip, try not to get hurt."

This is the beginning of a pretty boring time on tv now....after march madness its just the NBA which I really don't watch until the playoffs and baseball... :boredom: glad the SEC tourney is only 15 miles away from my home again I'll go watch that...Can't wait until the Fall

Call me crazy, but I still get excited when MLB gets fired up.

But the best part of MLB is the playoffs which is right in the thick of the college football season. The worst time for me is after march madness when baseball hasn't started and all we have is the NBA. Of course there is spring practice. I can't help but feel a little lost without meaningful football though. Oh well.

I love (major league) baseball, don't care what time of the year it is. Playoffs are pretty sweet, yeah, but that's the cherry ya know.

Gonna play some fantasy baseball for th first time in years this year, so I'll be even more into it.

Oh I get it now. I thought that MLB = Middle Linebacker only to find out you're talking about Major League Baseball. :snoring:

I think I'm going to finally retire from fantasy baseball. I'm tired of having my mind wander and thinking about whether I should pick up Aaron Miles or Antonio Perez as my last Utility player???

I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but.....we needed this last season. In the long run, it will pay great dividends than most think. You usually don't think of a bad season on the field as good in any way. Truth is, in my opinion, we needed an eye opener. We needed something to wake us up. A losing season will do that. It showed us our weaknesses, and even our strengths. We know that our defense is solid, but we had numerous deficiencies on offense. Changes are only made when someone leaves on their own or when things get pretty bad. Let's face it, nobody was going to leave, we had to have a bad season for there to be a chance to climb back up to where Tennessee football should be. I think we also needed this signing class. We need more kids who WANT to be a Vol, and that it will mean something to them when they put on that jersey and wear the T.

This past season, as bad as it may seem, has given us many pieces to the puzzle that we were missing. There still may be some pieces missing, but we're a heck of a lot closer to finding them than we would be if we had managed to win nine games. Although we would've been happy with nine or ten wins, that many wins every year will not equal a national championship. If you're not in it for a championship, then you shouldn't be in it. If taking two steps back help us to take three steps forward, I'm all for it. In the bigger picture, this season was needed.

That being said, I'm glad it's over. :dance2:

thank you kind sir.

utvols83, I agree with you. I am a Tennessee fan, but the program felt pretty lofty. Like some fans believed Tennessee football was more important than it really was. This last season was a nice violent check to let us know "YO, we got stuff to take care of if we're gonna play for another national championship anytime soon."

I am ready for 2006 football season. I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming year. The pieces are all there for an outstanding year. The Vols could easily run the table with a little luck. The Kentucky Wildcats have many positives for the upcoming year and could win 6 games and go bowling. :cross:

For last year...

The Rose Bowl was a great game.

and...

Orangewhiteblood on the hog board. Priceless!! :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol:
