You could sustain yourself in the game with turnovers because of those elite defenders.

Maybe someone develops into that, but this team seems to be built more to score and play with pace, so turnovers need to be curbed. Just my thoughts.

Get it on defense. Don't see the dogs we're used to but the depth on offense.....that's what has me excited!

We could play good defense and still look bad considering what we witnessed from ZZ and ‘Shack the last two or three years. We were blessed with some of the best defensive teams in Volunteer history. We have been spoiled.

We lack leadership and experience as well. We will watch a team play against NKU that is so freakin’ sore they can barely move. I would not want to experience practice the next few days after such sloppy play tonight. He’s going to work their rearends off.

I really like what I see from Brown and Henderson this early. NA will continue to get better every game. JG needs to call ZZ and get mentored. I really wish ZZ was on staff, but he’s gaining great experience and getting to play. Go Big Orange. 1-0. Let’s roll. I need BB after what happened Saturday night.

Carey got in good minutes also. Barnes went 11 deep.

Positives from tonight: the bigs had great offensive production, scoring 38 points. Clear strength of this team. Nate was very good, had a quiet 18 to lead us in scoring. I think that's great news moving forward.

Negatives: turnovers obviously, but not just committing them, also not really forcing any either. Guard play in general was not good. Troy Henderson gave us a little spark though. Also, we gave us far too many offensive rebounds to a team lacking any size outside of 1 player.

I think we are all spoiled by the efficient play of the last 3 seasons with that group. And it appears the inside game is the way Barnes is going this yr which is different. From reading Barnes comments he talked about the things they need to focus on to cleanup the bad issues from last night. I am confident he takes care of it all.

I enjoyed the game. Duke was seasoned and well coached studs. Mercer showed a lot of practice and coaching. Coach Barnes has a lot of work today. Maybe bring in a few marines to boot camp them. Natty for Vols this spring in BasketBALL...you heard it here 1st.

What I really wish was that JG would have come last year and learned the system. He would be settled in and leading the other guys at this point. Hopefully, he finds his groove before we hit the meat of our schedule.

Gillespie is fine. He is and will be finding out when to take over and when to get Ament going and deferring. We moved him off the ball a little too and he’s comfortable coming off a pin down for a 3. Burg/Boswell/TRoy ran point when we tried it and we had some 3G lineups as well

Brown reminds me a lot of grant williams. Long arms and super strong with excellent ability to finish inside.
