KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 3/5 Tennessee picked up three points at home Friday night, earning its third SEC victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Texas A&M.

With the result, the Lady Vols improved to 9-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in SEC play. UT remains unbeaten at Regal Soccer Stadium, extending its home record to 5-0-0.

In a tight, one-goal match, Tennessee outlasted Texas A&M for its third 1-0 victory and ninth clean sheet of the season.

The first half featured more defense than offensive chances, as the Lady Vols and Aggies combined for just five shots and three corners. The teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.

Tennessee found its break in the 71st minute. Freshman Milee Zych played a ball from the right sideline into senior Mac Midgley at midfield. Midgley slipped a through pass between two Texas A&M defenders to sophomore Reese Mattern, who entered the top left side of the box and, while falling to her left, delivered a one-touch ground shot into the far-side net.

The sequence marked Zych's second assist of the season and Midgley's third, both coming on precise passing. Mattern's game-winner was her second goal of the year, matching her total from her 2024 SEC All-Freshman campaign.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cayden Norris was tested in the closing minutes of the matchup, as Texas A&M fired six shots after the Tennessee goal and earned seven second-half corner kicks.

For the match, the Lady Vols tallied eight shots to the Aggies' 10 but controlled 54% of possession. UT is now 3-0-1 when taking fewer shots than its opponents and when tied at halftime.

UP NEXT: Tennessee looks for its fourth consecutive conference win when it hosts No. 17 Georgia on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. ET at Regal Soccer Stadium. It will be UT's fourth ranked matchup of 2025.

Is Tennessee really shaping up to be a serious contender for a championship (either conference or national) this season? What are the more serious soccer followers here thinking? Man, that would be amazing!

I'm already feeling like softball and soccer could go deep into post season play this year, and then basketball is also looking promising.

Could we be lucky enough to have all three of those sports have amazing seasons? Am I nuts for thinking this could be one of the best ever for LV sports? 😲

Tennessee is the real deal, Joe Kirt has built something special in Knoxville. Would be nice to get Shae O’Rourke back from injury. We don’t know her status.
