“The head coach at Tennessee is going to be judged on three games:

I'm not saying I'll complain either if we finish with that record. But getting beat by Florida, Georgia and Bama is getting old. This was the 4th year in a row that Georgia beat us by 20 plus points. Expecting this team to be competitive with Georgia and Florida by year 3 of a head coaching stint isn't too much to ask for.

I don’t disagree. Next year will be very important for CJP...assuming he takes care of business this season (and that is a big assumption).

Butch had Dobbs. JP has JG and will not pull him.
He is going to have to try the other guys now. The pressure is going to escalate tremendously this week. It even started last night with one of the major college football sites stating we are a very good football who needs a Qb. I can’t remember the source but it was posted on the web after yesterday’s game.

How do we get back there? Who you gonna hire to get there? We cannot keep paying buyouts forever. And it’s not like elite HCs are lining up to take the TN job.
Why are we even discussing about hiring a different coach...just dumb. This rebuild was even more of a bigger project than when butch took over

Uga starts a 4th string walk on at qb.....and he's better than our starter! We are a long way off from beating bama or uga. We will be a middle to lower tier team with JG at qb, and I'm starting to believe that friend is just as bad.
You don’t understand football

Fulmer says we got us a fine young coach. He's got 2 more years at least! Being he got an extension 🤣🤣🤣

Never said I wanted SHITNO or any other coach.
But a raise before you see how the season plays out does not make sense.
If the season 7-3 or better, yes a raise.
Raise was based on the win streak and giving recruits more incentive to go to a program where there would not be any imminent HC changes.

So then what’s the answer? We fans can set whatever bar we want. That changes nothing.

The issue is the AD.

Until the school gets behind football like GA, Al, FL, Clemson, OSU etc we will never be a top 10 program again.

My fear is UT has become ultra liberal and decided two things: that the fans are stupid and will turn out no matter what and that football is not a priority.

Until the BOT and school change we are stuck with unproven coaches getting hired as our HC. I hope I am wrong but the last 4 show I am not.

We’ve made one bad decision followed by worse and worse decisions.

I don’t know if it’s true, but if Gary Patterson was in play in 09 and 10, and Hamilton chose Kiffin (dumb, but I can live with it) and then Dooley (so far beyond stupid that I don’t think they’ve invented a word for it), it just shows his incompetence.

And then Butch as our 50th choice after Hart bungled yet another search.

And then Currie one-ups Hart with an even greater shat-show. But somehow gets Leach on the hook...only for Fulmer to pull the plug and go with a first time HC.

We couldn’t make up the stupidity of UT’s ineptitude in hiring a HFC if we tried.

But to answer your question, you get back the way Oklahoma, Alabama, Clemson and countless others have gotten back...you hire a competent coach. Not some bargain basement hopeful that is so far down the list that you have to look on the back of the page.

If it were me, I’d get the money together to pay the buyout and hire the coach from Iowa State.

Fuller did not pull the plug on Leach, he wasn’t AD yet. The chancellor found out Currie was meeting and negotiating with Leach and ordered Currie back to Knoxville. Then Currie was fired.

So pay Campbell, his new staff while continuing to pay Butch and then add Pruitt and his staffs buyouts???? That’s just not feasible.

You guys keep forgetting where Pruitt had to start from...Very few existing players, no S&C program, and discord in the AD and administration...Another words the base wasn't there, compared to UGA and UF which had changed coaches as well and we just came off an 0-8 SEC record in 2017. Hell, at that point when Pruitt took over, we were looking up at Vandy, UK, USC, Miss State, Ole Miss, and Missouri. It was pathetic at that point in time.

What’s to understand? How can we see team after team trot unproven QBs out and have them perform at a higher level than our RS SR???

I think he’s just saying.....better supporting cast.

Better protection
Better running game
Stouter D
Better field position

Not saying anything about JG, not saying he didn’t suck.....just saying that can always make you look better.

From my watching the OL play, I saw equal parts of
1. Getting an ass whipping from better players
2. A lot of standing around blocking nobody
3. Flat out quit competing
Hopefully we’ll get an idea from the staff after the film grading out of the OL. CLEARLY they struggled big time.

Since all the recruits know UT refuses to fire a head coach before his contract is up, well other than Fulmer, Dooley, & Butch.

I personally believe TN football is dead.

Fl, Ga, Txam, Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU have all shown they are willing to do whatever it takes to win games.

Coaches arent coming here because it's well known within coaching circles the football program is not on the same page as the school nor a priority. It's a cash grab to UT.

Until the money dries up I see no changes.

Hold up now!

I’d take watching Tennessee lose every week over having to watch soccer or some crap like that.

Pruitt is going to get two more years after this season no doubt, the extension ensures that, but make no mistake, he'll go the way of Dooley and Butch if he doesn't exhibit a sea change in HC abilities by that point, and we are still uncompetitive against the top of the conference.

Five years of getting blown out by FL/GA/AL will get any UT coach fired, regardless of the buyout.
I am not so sure about that anymore. The times, they be a changing. The beer bug has Mickey Mouse choking and puking. The faucet from which the TV money flows will be turned down some next contract. Disney has always been a pretty tight run company. They may realize that ESPN has pissed off half the country and is no longer a profitable investment. When the TV money slows, so does the kickbacks from the athletic departments to the universities. The schools will scream bloody murder when a source of their income is cut and will demand an accounting of buyouts and coaches salaries.

It bothers me that so many of our fans are completely willing to throw JG under the bus but give a pass to this staff that has had the opportunity to either develop, recruit or grad transfer a better option.
