Recently learned they give recruits in basic training ‘stress cards’ they can use when they are stressed from being yelled at. What in the holy crap???

My oldest is a tech sargeant in the AF. He’s been in just under 10 years. They didn’t have them when he went in and he said the MTI’s aren’t allowed to yell at the recruits anymore. He said the undisciplined airmen coming out now is unbelievable.

They must have misplaced mine in ‘88.
The children that were the radicals of the 60's had kids that now have children that we are calling millennials. This started with growing up in the 60's and spitting on our men and women returning from Vietnam.

It started when somebody made it up and put it on the internet.

I think it's a myth.

AF definitely does. Someone that works at Ft Knox told me over the weekend that they thought the army did as well, but they couldn’t confirm. Waiting to hear back from my other son that is in the army for confirmation.

I'm telling you... this is an old story. They once issued cards that talked about stress, but soldiers were never allowed to pull them out and play them like an Uno card.

Gotcha.

Are soldiers allowed to tell their drill they’re having a ‘bad day’ and get to sit out of certain activities?

I’m seriously wondering cause this all has set my head to spinning.

You could do that when I went through. You would spend the day in the front leaning rest position but hey you weren't getting stressed.......

He confirmed this is a thing, at least in the AF.

I don't believe for a second that 10-year vet thinks the younger guys are undisciplined. ; )

Went through Air Force basic training in late 08 (just barely missed the extended basic training the experimented with in 09).

Stress cards were not a thing then

Didnt have them in the Air Force back in 98...but we had coke machines, cigarette breaks, weekend trips to Six Flags San Antonia or Ciudad Del Rio if you were old enough.

I went to Marine Basic in 2000. The only time we got a downtime talk and an afternoon “off”. A kid in our company, another platoon than mine. Was being it’d. From the push-up position he took off and slammed his head through the glass in a window. And and started shaking his head cutting his neck. Blood was everywhere.

Then the next day was back to hell.
