Patterson, Franklin, and Petersen are not leaving. That’s not happening. Gruden isn’t happening either. I don’t think Fuente would leave.

Frost seems like a done deal to Nebraska. Kelly is off the table.

So, the talent pool for schools out there seems to be

Mullen (more realistic for Tennessee than Florida)
Taggart (more realistic for Florida than Tennessee)
Norvell
Campbell
Morris (a name folks don’t seem to mention)

An assistant somewhere or something out of left field.

Now, I seem to be in the minority, but I think there are quality coaches on that list to get excited about.

But, if you can’t get excited by that list or (insert other name here), you’re in trouble. Because, IMO, those are the realistic candidates

I will never understand why people sitting at home on their couch think they know exactly who will or will not be the coach at Tennessee.

His experience at Florida wasn’t pleasant

Care to elaborate? I'd heard he could be a bit prickly. That being the case, I wonder if Currie would bite on Mullen. Might be easier from a day to day working relationship to go with a guy like Frost, Norvell, or Campbell. I also wonder if Leach will be a serious candidate given his...well...unique personality. "Fit" seems poor with both Leach and Mullen if these assumptions are accurate.

Of course, no one knows. You can do a reasonable process of elimination.

You can remove names of people you don’t want. Tennessee does not want Jim McElwain. You can also remove names of people who are happy where they are.

If what you've laid out is accurate, I'd like to see UT take a run at Malzahn. I realize that it's probably as unlikely as the original three you mentioned, but it can't hurt.

Of the names you mentioned, Campbell appears to be doing the most with the least. I'm afraid that after how tightly the search has been kept under wraps by Currie and Co. any hire not named Gruden, Kelly, Patterson, or Petersen is going to be deemed a failure, however unreasonable that position may be.

Thank you for reinforcing my decision not to register to vote.

He is prickly and was made more prickly by not being happy with the fan expectations.

That’s he short, short version.

Personally, I think he’s staying where he is too

You are right no one knows so I don't know why all these people (again sitting on their couch) say so-and-so is NOT coming, maybe they aren't, but NOT is your opinion, it is not fact

You're probably right. Grab a nice raise and stay put.

Why do you feel Mullen is more realistic for UT vs UF?

Mullins wife hated Gainesville ........

"In an interview posted by Mississippi State Athletics back in August, Megan Mullen shared how difficult it was to live in Gainesville with those expectations for the Gators to succeed being so high.

“The former school where we were at before, we won championships there, won practically every single game we played for four years there,” Megan Mullen said. “It wasn’t if we won or lost. It was if we didn’t score 43 points or more, I was going to the grocery store in Orlando where I worked with the Golf Channel and I was driving the groceries back to Gainesville, because it was that bad.”

We're stuck in 'no man's land'.

With the state of the program we aren't going to attract a top tier HC. That means we're down to 2nd tier candidates.

Just like with Butch it was nice to think he could maybe upgrade the roster and get us back to respectability. And if he couldn't get us over the hump we could then move on and be in position to attract a top tier HC.

But that didn't happen, we're now 4-8 and looking at best at 2nd tier candidates again. The monkey wrench in all of it is that even if he got us to 8 or 9 wins most years then we likely wouldn't try to make a change in order to get over the hump. Ala, no man's land for years.

Now we're back to where we were after Dooley. Not being able to attract a top tier candidate and looking for someone who at best could get us to 8 or 9 wins most years. If that doesn't happen that we rinse and repeat in 4-5 years. If it does happen then it's unlikely we replace someone winning 8 to 9 games every year.

Unless one of these 2nd ties candidates comes in and surprises....welcome to no man's land.

Norvell might head back to Arizona St so the coaching pool is dwindling..
