    "Realistic" HC Candidates

The difference this year than with past coaching searches is that we actually have a good amount of talent on the roster. It's hard to convince a top-notch HC candidate to come in when the cupboard is bare. Say what you will about Butch's ability as a coach, but he's a fantastic recruiter...

Tennessee Vols Basketball - Bona Fide Tennessee @ Missouri Game Thread 3:00 pm ET,

Was I the only person upset by Rosburg's dunk at the end of the game after the players had already stopped defending? I know they ended a losing streak, but that was pretty classless.

    Tennessee Revenues and Expenses

Sorry guys, looks like I was wrong. Not $4M. Probably not $10M either, though, as I've heard Butch has a duty to mitigate by searching for another job (and he would) Though there's nothing to prevent his new job from paying him peanuts while he's receiving a nice paycheck from TN. So, payout...

    Tennessee Revenues and Expenses

Buyout before Mar 2016 is $4M total. After Mar 16 it's $3M and decreases $1M annually after that. I've seen people talking about $12M and $18M buyouts, but the contract simply isn't structured that way.

The team has given up on Butch Jones

I have a hard time believing this team could be much better next year with CBJ. Many of the team's issues aren't talent or experience-based, but poor fundamentals and coaching. Even CBJ's questionable gameday decisions aren't the biggest problem. Poor tackling, bad angles, over-pursuing, not...

Extremely premature coaching candidate discussion (merged)

Love the Whittingham idea. Don't think Patterson would leave a very soft Big 12 anytime soon. I'll always have Gruden as my fantasy/never-going-to-happen-but-I-want-it-anyway candidate, but this administration isn't willing to pay for a name-brand coach. In any case, I don't think Hart pulls the...

    Butch Jones critique/support/discussion (merged)

I've been advocating for Hart to be fired for a few years. Don't think it'll happen anytime soon. He's too entrenched and has Cheek (who doesn't know a football from a tomato) and DiPietro's support. Too bad - he's absolutely wrecked the Athletics department.

The Official Tennessee vs. Arkansas Game Thread, 7:00pm ET, ESPN2

Butch has lost the fan base's confidence. He's certainly lost mine. Heck, he lost mine when he refused to own up to poor coaching decisions, choosing to blame "analytics" (not to mention the coaching card he blamed actually says to go for 2 when you're up by 12). I appreciate him raising the...

    So glad it wasn't Gruden

    A mind's a terrible thing to waste....

    So glad it wasn't Gruden

I truly believe that Gruden did want to come here. I think the chance to coach again without his family having to endure the brutal NFL work schedule and the fact that his wife's family is nearby were very appealing to him. And the stuff about Bill Haslam being on this side or that of a...

    So glad it wasn't Gruden

To me, it's almost like CBJ is that average-looking, slightly pudgy girl you took to prom, while Gruden is that smoking hot rich girl that you could have taken if you hadn't accidentally thrown up on her when you tried to ask. And then after the fact telling yourself that she probably wasn't...

Anyone with insight to how this played out??

Not exactly. See Dan Rather for what can happen to a journalist's career based solely on a bad source.

Gruden and Hart seen today with family in Gatlinburg Tennessee!

That is one sweet pair of lederhosen!!!

There will be a reckoning.....count on it.

Nothing against Butch Jones. A couple of strong seasons, and you might see UT's revenues from ticket sales and donations increase and begin to chip away at our debt. But Dave Hart had (according to published reports) the chance to bring a level of instant excitement to UT football by hiring...

There will be a reckoning.....count on it.

I respect your thoughts, but I think you have a funny definition of "real life." College football is a $2 Billion dollar industry. UT's annual revenue from football alone is > $120 Million. Ticket sales and donations make up roughly 60% of that total. It's expenditures were a few million...
