How do you combat it though. Seems like man blitz with sufficient personnel can shut this offense down (i’m sure it’s more nuanced than that but still)
Yeah they are just to slow to get separation against DBs that are that athletic. There were several really poor throws though. Tillman didn’t have a lot of opportunities to go up and get it and multiple deep balls were overthrown. Pressure had something to do with a lot of them.
Lot of people missing the real issue. Receivers were covered on almost every snap. Hooker doesn’t like taking risk and doesn’t scramble well and it hurt us.
Cfb-graphs.com is great for advanced stats. Dave bartoo has a patreon where he uploads weekly scoring efficiency metrics that are really legit (hint our defense is super underrated)
I think Kirby will limit our run game outside of a few chunk plays. He hates allowing the run more than anything. I think both teams will lean on the passing game and it will come down to if our receivers can win matchups. But bru and hyatt are third and fourth in the SEC at yards per target...
Wouldn’t be surprised to see squirrell and hyatt on the field at the same time at some point tomorrow though. Could cause some issues for a secondary that has a couple dbs that can run with hyatt
Exclude the Bama game with multiple injured wide receivers and an all-time defense. I like that they gave up 35+ in every game and 40+ five times. I think the defense they run is designed to beat down inferior offenses with mediocre quarterback play that is common in cfb. Still, this UGA offense...
That’s the hope. One caveat is that several of UGAs dbs are fast as hell (multiple are nearly on par with hyatt in the 100m) so we will need to beat them differently than we did Alabama. Alabama has a couple of slower guys at corner and safety and we exploited it all night. Tillman being back is...
Dave Bartoo uses scoring efficiency which factors in tempo and garbage time and looks at how efficiently you score or prevent scoring. He has us at #1 and #5 in offensive and devensive scoring efficiency, respectively. Our defense is much better than it looks and is more than capable of keeping...
Never talk to the police without a lawyer present. Being charged with a crime is one thing, but open your mouth and say the wrong thing and you may find yourself convicted.
I wanted to dive into the stats and get past the raw numbers since we have so many more plays per game than most teams and we play a bend-don’t-break defense. Scoring efficiency, EPA (expected points added), and normalized stats are a good place to start.
When you look at defensive scoring...
