Martin gets his first NCAA tourney win

Yeah and Cal Poly became the first 19 loss team to win a tournament game since what the 50s? What a sad way to water down the records of a historic tournament.

wow, take a sedative and enjoy what just happened. Bruce is gone, this might just get Coach Martin around the corner

That's true technically. But they did make enough of their opportunities to get a "first round bye". It's not like it's an honor to be a last four team.

We played at the 11 seed plain while those who were playing the 16 seed plain in were the ones who were seeded the lowest. The 11 seed puts us as one of the best 44 teams in the NCAAT. Lets give our team what it earned.

it's not "technically" true it's a fact. UT was an 11 seed which puts about 20 seeded lower. Avoiding the 1st round doesn't mean you're better than every team that didn't

I get that. I shouldn't have used the term "better". The other teams did more with their opportunities, though. Thus, they were bestowed the very rare privilege of sitting out for the "first round". Only 60 teams had that luxury. Spin it all you want. Being in the play in game is not good. Winning it, however, was good. Just not willing to throw a parade for them at this point. That's all I'm trying to say.

so the 11-16 seeds did more with their opportunities and were given a privilege while UT was punished? How many teams would have gladly traded spots with UT last night? Give me a break. All you want to do is pour cold water on the win last night. Don't do it by taking needless shots at the team if that's your intent

Wait? I thought this was a play "in" game.
Play "in" to what?
If it's a game to play "in" to the tourney, then how is that a tourney game?

It is a legitimate "round". Except, 60 of the 68 teams get a bye. Still, a win is a win. Let's throw a parade.

Or play in to the round of 64....

I'm looking at my bracket right now and it literally says the play in games are round 1 and the round of 64 is round two. What in Gods name is wrong with you people....

There is no doubt in my mind that was a good win last night. First, they beat a quality opponent on a neutral floor that had strong emotional desire to win for their coach and his son. Second, they came from behind in the second half, something they rarely do. Third, the match ups in the paint were not good. They typically lost to teams that were much taller like Iowa for the first two thirds of the season. Fourth, officials. Again. The non-calls that irked me the most were the obvious attempts to trip the guy with the ball. Then the mystic calls where nothing happened in reality. Add in the T on Jarnell. Ridiculous.

So, Zo and staff get a really good grade today. That has not happened much this season.

Zo could get done what is expected if he makes moves on his staff in the off season and brings in a strong offensive coach and hands him the keys to it. Hope Hart makes that mandatory. If they get that done the program could improve significantly. If not more than likely you are looking a years of bubbles. It will look like an old Lawrence Welk show when Zo's run is done.

I'm glad we won. Glad we face a very beatable UMass team. But I will rain a little on the parade because I think it is absurd to think that we have accomplished anything yet.

OK - let's simplify this tourney thing.

It's a field of 68 - not 64. 64 is gone. Forget about it. Old news. The field is 68. You don't want to be seeded in the bottom 8 because you may have to play 3 games in 5 days. However, you are in the dance. Officially.

we won our first tournament game in 4 years. We accomplished something.

The need of so many to run down last night's win is mind-boggling. It's like you're rooting for UT to fail. God forbid someone find enjoyment watching a UT sports team succeed

Nobody is running anything down. And I quite enjoyed the game last night. My original post was regarding the near concensus opinion that this was some landmark achievement and if you disagree, you are a negavol heretic that deserves a lifetime of anal trauma. I'm pleased with the win, but I am not impressed at this point. That's it.

No matter what you say, think, or try to think, Martin is 1-0 in the NCAAs, and so is Tennessee in 2014.

Sorry dude, nothing will EVER change that. I would say "IMO" or "there's my $.02," but it's not a subjective matter in the least bit.

I believe it is called a "play in game" for a reason. He will get his 1st true tournament win Friday. They won't loose to umass.

I would say that there were some things working against U.T. in terms of seeding, and in a normal year, they would not have had to play a first round game. The NCAA didn't want to give Dayton a home game, so they seeded them instead. Take that out of the equation and U.T. probably takes that seed. U.T. had the highest RPI of any first round team, and a higher RPI than Dayton. That's just how things work out some time.

Lol you're such a clown dude. "Nobody is running anything down" lmao.

I'm generally more negative than the next guy, but I find it amazing that some are actually discarding this as a great win and a significant milestone.......just SMDH

There are plenty of legitimate issues to be negative about, but this win is definitely not one of them.

Hilarious how some are trying to justify their negativity.

It was a great win. It was not a milestone achievement. If it is considered a milestone, then our basketball program is doomed.
