Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

Yeah, all 25 fans that showed up.

But that's good, he needs to see what a typical Auburn home crowd is like.

You know that won't stay the same. That's the first thing he changed around here and why it's a bigger loss than just losing a coach. Coaches can be replaced, that much is true, but coaches who can market basketball in a football town? They're rare.

also,

pearl, stallings, donovan, and calipari are the only current sec head coaches to advance as far as the sweet 16 more than once.

ummm yeah

- 100 impermissible calls
- illegal benefits to parents

were you aware of those or are they not considered cheating? Is that abundant or a lot in your opinion?

The cheating reference is starting to be used a little to loosely, in regards to Bruce Pearl. I don't believe what he got in trouble for is even a violation, now. I don't see any big houses, fancy cars, and loots of cash that CBP gave to anybody.Besides, they all cheat. "Ye without sin, cast the first stone."

Solid post. Only 2 @ Tennessee in my lifetime that have achieved that. If CCM had the ability to engage the students, alumni and fans then I suspect he would not be in the situation he is (at least it would not be as divisive).

so the things I listed aren't considered cheating? Doesn't matter whether others do it or not.

as for the violation no longer existing, it did exist when Pearl committed it at UWM and again at UT.

I think the problem some people (I would include myself in this) have calling Bruce pearl a "cheater" is that when you think "cheater", you think Barry Switzer. You think charley pell. You think jackie sherill. Etc, etc, etc.

Bruce pearl is not in the same NCAA offender class

I agree with you on Martin - people DO like him and feel he's a great human being. The problem is he's so stoic he's almost unrelatable. If he would open up just a little bit and show a little more emotion on the court (he doesn't have to change his personality just show folks what's going on behind the stoic mask he puts on every now and then) people would be all about CCM.

With Malzahn and Pearl, Auburn is packing a pretty good 1-2 punch.

I don't know much about Jay Jacobs, Auburn's AD, but a quick search reveals he's been there since 2004. Auburn has hired some pretty horrendous coaches since then. I wonder what changed in the past couple of years?

Their fans used our petition.

So where does Dave Serrano end up in 3 years?

My best guess is Florida.

Also, Butch is going to replace Richt at UGA after he retires.

Malzahn seemed like an obvious choice for them and Pearl was unemployed and limited in his options. I don't know that I give Jacobs much credit for this except for realizing that he needed to move fast to get Pearl (and for having the gumption to hire a coach under a show cause penalty).

Yeah too bad I'm not cool enough to add Auburn to my list of favorite teams.

Oh and about the list, you just made it.

If you are referring to me, I am a Vol fan for life. I simply miss Bruce Pearl and am a little sad that another SEC school got him. I have never seen the basketball program, like it was, success wise and excitement, than when CBP was here.

Fair point about Malzahn. He did have ties there so that was pretty much a no-brainer I suppose. It was still a great hire, IMO.

So, clearly, it can never reach those heights again, no?

Watching a good chunk of the UT fanbase today is like watching a 16 year old deal with their first break up. "SHE WAS THE ONE! THE ONLY ONE AND I'LL NEVER BE HAPPY AGAIN...."
