Need a little help.

It looks like, The Lord Willing, I will be getting to travel for work for the first time ever, here in a little over a week. It will be up in NJ, between Philly and NYC. Never been to either, so I plan to try to visit each to at least eat and maybe catch a couple sites, etc.

1) I will be in a rental car. I have no idea about driving to/in either city. Can someone tell me the best way to get in the city -esp NYC. And where do I park once I'm there, like if I wanted to visit Time Square/central park/WTC, etc? Is there somewhere to park the car and then travel on the subway? Any ideas?

2) is Philly hard to get around in?

3) If you only had ONE restaurant to recommend ($ 30-40 and under) in either city, what would it be?

Thanks and Go Vols!

Don't drive if you can, especially to NYC. Try to take the train in and subway/cab/walk around, driving/parking is a disaster especially if this is your first trip. You can always find a garage to park in and there are spots, but they usually aren't convenient depending on the time of day and garages can be expensive. If you do drive and park, make sure you read the signs, I got $115 ticket the other day for no parking from 11pm to 6am or something stupid like that.

Taking the train in to Grand Central is great, you can walk to Times Square easily from there. I would ask the hotel where you will be staying, I'm sure they can give you specific directions on the best way to get to the city for sure.

Good luck finding a place to park in NYC. I'd definitely leave the car wherever you first park and use the train (or taxis, which don't cost all that much) eating for 30-40 is different in NYC than here. It won't get you into a nice restaurant. Won't even get you into Angelo and Maxie's. I'd also recommend the dumplings in Chinatown. It cheap, they're amazing, and it's right near the Brooklyn Bridge. The reason I mention the bridge is this: I saw everything NYC had to offer tourists, but my favorite was just walking across the bridge. I went just around dark, and it was quiet, beautiful, and all the other nice words you'd never use to describe NYC.
Just don't eat at a chain; there are a trillion amazing places to eat there, why eat at TGIFridays.

Use the Zagat or Foodspotting app on your phone and you can find some great places. It's highly used up there, so all the restaurants will be rated.

Lord willing? NJ? NYC?

I couldn't fathom the sin I'd have to commit for the Lord to send me there.

ionaVOL is spot on - driving in NYC is to be avoided at all costs

on another note traveling for work is kinda like sleeping with a lot of women - sounds great at first but you just end up around many more diseases, bone tired, and ready to be home

If you want help with both places, please PM me and we can exchange numbers and I will gladly help you out. I live on Long Island and spend a good bit in NYC and have been to Philly at least 50+ times.

This site doesn't have PM anymore.

The VQ guys each picked 1 "newcomer" they were eager to see this Spring.

Brice picked Riley Ferguson. Ferguson was listed in the article at 6'3 and 189 lbs. Hubbs went the unique route, and picked Hurd. Rob Lewis picked Coleman Thomas. Fortenberry picked Von Pearson. Austin Price picked Jakob Johnson. And Grant Ramey selected Coleman Thomas.

I'm most excited to see Owen Williams! We need him!

Yeah I don't prefer it. But I'm gonna be 1-1.5 hours outside of NYC. So i kinda have to. Ha. If there is a good place to park and then jump on the subway I am open to it

Chuck Webb is the baddest man to ever run the football for us. If you're too young to have seen him it truly hurts my heart that you missed it. Cobb was excellent as well but CW was a straight up beast.
I have to agree. I remember watching him when he was in high school in the consolation game for the city championship. I knew he was going to Tennessee and that is the day I became a fan of my father's favorite team, now my alma mater.

Thomas looks to be shaping up to possibly provide a cam sutton type impact. Awesome

Then I would definitely recommend checking out the train options from wherever you are staying. I am in Westchester NY, so I am able to park at a metro north station and take a 25-35 min train directly to Grand Central for less than $20 round trip. Well worth avoiding the hassle of driving 20 min to the city, spending another 30 min looking for parking and then eventually giving up and paying $40 to park in a garage that's nowhere near where I'm going. I used to love the city in college, not so much anymore hah.

Like was mentioned before, try to take a train into the city. It will save you money. What town will you be in?

I've driven through the heart of Manhattan twice. The first time was mid-morning through Chinatown. I'm a pretty good driver (all men are good at two things, and one of them's driving) with experience in city driving, but it's a whole other beast in NYC.
