Petition to rehire Bruce Pearl

Laughable thread. Folks don't have a clue. I'm guessing most petition signers also still believe in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.

Are you telling me the Tooth Fair and Santa Claus are not real?

Don't know if the petition signees are real or not, there are always some that will junk it up just to try to get a point across and show support.

The petition has served several purposes, just the fact that it is still being address is a valid reason.

It's out there and that is the way it happens.

It has drawn National Attention. Awareness.

Some reporters have written articles of sorts, stating he should be hired.

It has applied pressure to the situation without blatantly taking any other unusual steps.

It's like a survey.

The petition has lost momentum after the Vandy game. False sense of security. Let's see how the MO and Auburn games play out. SECT also.

Fans are unhappy because their preseason expectations for this team were high. BP for some fans is an easy no-brain fix while others think he is the only fix and other will state no damn way.

If This team wins the SECT, makes a decent run in the NCAA goes to Elite 8, this petition may not die, it may still grow.

Regardless of who would be hired, the overall sentiment is that CCM should probably go.

Some fans love Pearl and some dislike him.

Some think he was wronged by the NCAA and UTK administrators, some think he got what he deserved.

Some think that they are entitled to a new coach and some will not buck the system and state to give this coach one more year because he deserves it.

If we make it to the NIT, fans will be asking that CCM be let go. Also the attendance will be atrocious.

If we make it to the NCAA and with a decent run, some will still state that he needs to go.

I am split on whether or not, CCM was the right hire at the time we hired him. I lean towards the No he was not because of the AD that did the hiring.

Hart will hire the right guy when its time. The minute he let's CCM go he better have a plan to hire someone because this will again look like the Gruden, Sal and football and assistants coaches hiring fiascos except Pearl will be in the picture.

Did anybody start a rehire Fulmer petition? Different circumstances I know, but he was available.

I never saw an actual petition, but there was a ton of support to rehire him on this site and other Vol sites. I'd argue much more than Pearl is getting, but it's football so that's understandable.

And Clay Travis was pushing hard for Fulmer to be rehired after the Gruden thing started dying down. I don't remember how much he was into Gruden in the first place, but he was really pushing the "get the band back together" aspect before Jones was hired.

That's the major difference I would say, the support for a Fulmer return seemed to mostly come after Gruden was definitely not happening, whereas Pearl is the first choice in this scenario.

Just think of it this way,

If the Administrators advise Pearl prior to his meeting with the NCAA that the picture exists, are we even having this discussion?

If Pearl takes a lawyer into the meeting, are we even having this discussion?

Who was attempting to protect the University more, Pearl, Hamilton, or Cheek.

Does the NCAA adjudicate fair, equitable punishment to all?

I agree, the supporters for Fulmer vs the supporters for Pearl, I would bet are almost totally different segments of the fan base with some over lap. Both groups want what they feel is best for the university.

I have personally witnessed a phone call or two during the game of boosters calling the AD in the middle of a game demanding that certain assistant coaches be fired. It happened in both situations at season's end.

I don't nor did I want to be a part of that. My statement to both of them and these were two separate incidents were if you need to call the AD and tell him that then the first person that should be fired is the AD not the coaches.

You know what they say about ifs.

Yes I do....which is also worded in the petition....about 80% of the msg boards posts contain that thought process. The word may not be there but the thought is.

If we do this then this will happen

If he hits that shot then we win even though we lost by ten points. Then someone will ague about it.

Msg boards would be boring if the if word was forbidden. If, if were taken away there would be nothing to talk about except for facts and reality. Face it, only some can handle reality and truths.

That's definitely for sure.

“@Ben_Fred: .@GottliebShow says he doesn't think Bruce Pearl will coach next season. Says he thinks it will be season after. Mentioned Boston College.”

Gottlieb is a damn Martin apologist!

I think most people don't understand that Pearls show cause doesn't end till August. So hiring him before then means going before the NCAA. Otherwise you have to basically hire him 3 months before your season starts. I can't see a major program doing either unless they are flat out desperate.

If you can't see it then you're an apologist too

:)

Agree, Many candidates out there besides Pearl. I love Bruce, but he's not the future of this program(neither is Cuonzo)

Martin might be a great coach one day but he has definitely lost a lot of this fan base and I'm not sure anything short of a final 4 run would get them back. It's as much about emotion now as it is about wins and losses.

He never had a lot of this fan base. He was doomed before he ever coached his first practice.

If Pearl isn't the future of this program then I have little hope that this program has a future. I've been watching UT basketball for 40+ years and the most exciting time in those 40 years have been the 6 years CBP was coach. Second most exciting was the Ernie and Bernie years.

I disagree. I supported him as did most Vol fans. However, any coach that underachieved is going to lose support. I would love to see Cuonzo get this team on a NCAA run , Sweet 16 or better, and gain most of the support he has lost back. Not sure it's possible.we'll know in the next few weeks

This may actually work in the Vols favor. If Martin does make it to the tournament, I don't see Hart making the move on him thus giving him another year. Most agree that next year will be worse and very well could be a .500 type year. If Bruce is on the market then and the Vols have a .500 type year, the cry for Pearl this year will pale in comparison to next year. All conjecture on my part.

They don't want to hear that. Now be a good Nazi and agree with them.:)
