'14 TN RB Jalen Hurd (UT commit 3/14/13)

It may be hard to believe, but Jalen is only weighing around 223 lbs right now. He may look 240, but he's not. The one significant thing that has happened to him is that he went from close to 8% body fat down to under 5% (which is pretty ridiculous). So while the scales haven't moved for him much, he's lost a lot of fat and replaced it with muscle. Makes a huge difference obviously.

Great to hear. A lot of guys kept saying that once Hurd got into the S&C program that he's explode to 240 or 250. I always assumed they'd tailor a plan for him,via diet and lifting, to keep him close to his normal weight, get him more fit to help keep his quickness and agility. Sounds like that's the plan. Kid looks great.

LOL @ anyone who seriously believes he is "under 5%" body-fat. That is what Pro bodybuilders compete at and that is after weeks/months of rigorous dieting. That level of leanness is not sustainable long term from a general health standpoint, which is why Pro bodybuilders look completely drained come contest time at that level of conditioning.

Pro athletes have been claiming ridiculous body-fat percentages for decades. Caliper measurements are not accurate at all.

This. If he is under 5% he'll have the flu every other week.

You are absolutely correct. Hurd looks about 7% which is actually killer shape. Guys with really low BMI on the team are probably the young CBs like Moseley. He's adding straight muscle on a small frame not shredding some current muscle.

Pro body builders are usually like 5'8 and 245 lbs... so yeah, being 5% with those stats would be a lot different than being 6'3 and 222.

That said I don't personally think he's under 5... just saying it could be true. and not THAT ridiculous.

I doubt he is that low and medically speaking he does not need to be that low. With the sport he plays he needs to be at 8% or above. He needs some reserves

Shoot, this is nothing. There is a thread around here somewhere claiming a HS player is around 3-5% I think

Like another poster commented, the university uses Bod Pods to measure body fat percentages, so I'm not sure how their percentages are calculated compared to other methods.

The info came straight from J Hurd, and I seriously doubt he would lie about it to his family. He's frustrated because he hasn't put on a ton of weight, yet his strength, size and speed are through the roof right now. Fact is, he is under 225lbs. and he's looking like The Hulk, so there's obviously some explanation for it.

And you have to remember, he is sort of a freakish specimen. His height/weight/strength/speed/etc. combination is far from normal.

Maybe, it's inconceivable; maybe it's not. I have no idea. I'm just passing along info.

Lol. Please share with us some more of your expertise on health and fitness. I'm sure you are speaking from personal experience.

By the way, your wrong. Most bodybuilders dehydrate themselves, starve, and use many other techniques to pull water out of their body to get that crisp look they have on stage. It's all about appearance and nothing about functionality. Most of the lethargic behavior is due to dehydration.

Football players and other athletes who play functional sports tend to get solid physiques due to training and a lean high calorie diet. Not to mention kids Jalen's age who play multiple sports tend to lean out fairly easy due to having a racehorse metabolism. Not as big of a stretch as you are making it out to be.

I'm afraid your quite off on this and the one you quoted is right. Had nothing to do with how they get to 5% but more of its unhealthy to be that low and the human body will not allow itself to be that low without doing what bodybuilders do and it can only be sustained for a few days. Laugh all you want but just do a little research on the matter.

I speak from experience. And I would love to see what you 2 look like to even be speaking on the topic. That being said 2 people sharing the same opinion doesn't make you right. It just means there are 2 uninformed twits.

I swear today's generation of kids talk on subjects they know nothing about and don't even care to be wrong. I was always a pro life guy, but based on these boards sometimes, I'm starting to 2nd guess myself.

This is the evidence you come up with? An article about a freak of nature from 32 years ago?

I added 3 more. Still want to pile on cross fit?

Also you 2 are siding with an Auburn troll who has been the butt of many jokes on here in the past. Probably not the person I would be sharing an opinion with.
