Petition to rehire Bruce Pearl

You seem really upset. It's basketball.

Name one thing? He did the same thing Marshall did today. He got MVC coach of the year award for doing it.

He's beaten Donavon, beaten Calipari and all those one and doners and he's done it with less talent.

He's been in the top half of the league, not the bottom half, and he likely won't finish in the bottom half this year.

You don't have to hang YOUR hat on that, but it was a reasonable question and I have tried to give you a reasonable answer.

Thing about it is for everyone he's won I can name two he shouldn't have lost to but he did. As to the top half of the league, he's been in the top half of the league when it's been dominated by two teams and the rest are average at best. Why is the SEC getting only 3 in the tournament this year? Because the others suck.

As far as being angry, no I'm not angry at all. And the it's only basketball, are you Cuonzo?

Well the SEC currently has 4-5 teams projected in by most.

So we're 4th tied with another team? Out of 14 teams that's pretty much in the middle third. And how many are one game back? It's a league where it has two ranked teams and the others are average at best so we're right in the middle of mediocrity. If you can't see that then there's no point in discussing.

You asked what he's done better than average, he finished better than average in conference his first 2 years and likely will again.

If you don't agree, then maybe you should have worded it differently.

No I guess our definition of average is different. When you have two teams on top and the rest are duking it out with similar records, I call that average. I wish I had you as a teacher in college.

Last question you asked, that's first. Maybe SEC schools pay less to head coaches. Maybe the recruiting footprint of SEC schools has more great athletes that choose football over basketball, so recruiting is harder for anybody not named Calipari and Donovan. That's not an original thought of mine by the way.

If Pearl is not rehired. What will you do? If Pearl is not rehired and Martin is fired if he doesn't make the tourney, what will you do? Who will be acceptable?

That's where I am. That's where I have been.

I have no issue with folks wanting some one else. My issue is that we have a team, they are still playing games and it is unfair, in the same way it was for Pearl, for all this stuff to be going on while there are games to be played.

Saving board space and no need to rehash the other. I agree we have a coach and there is nothing indicating that a change will be made at the end of the season.

One problem is the speculation and the reactions to it. Which group started this first, the media, the petition or the fans start.

Our AD has made 2 great hires and the 3rd hire was going to happen no matter who sat as AD. Yes we have heard the argument about Jones not yet proving himself yet, but to date based on year one he has proven that he is dedicated to the University, the players and to the traditions of the program.

Don't know if Hart will pull the trigger or not but until it happens. Then again it may not happen. Regardless, We are setting ourselves up for disaster. Stallings may be right to a degree that we are idiots for causing all this drama and speculating on hires and no hires before if anything happens.

Martin should probably have made the NCAA his first year and last year was a close miss, but GA winning the SECT getting the automatic bid is what kept us out I believe

Does Tennessee have the highest sos in conference? Jw

The reason the SEC sux isn't relative, it just does and you have FL and KY way at the top and then everyone else. UT is equal to about the top third of those teams IMO. Any of those could beat any at any given time. To me that's average.

As to what happens, you obviously think Cuonzo can get it done given enough time. I don't think he will do any better if he was given 20 years. If they don't cut him loose, I have no interest in getting season tickets. Heck, this is the first year I haven't been to a game in 10 years, even though I was offered free tickets several times this year.

If he's fired and they hire another no name guy, I'll wait until I see if the product improves to see if I think it's worth buying in again. If they hire Pearl, which I doubt, or another proven coach, I'll probably get tickets again.

Not when you consider there really are two teams in the conference and the rest are average bubble teams. Idk how the sos compares but just look at conference records.

Don't know if there is a question in there for me, :)...

It doesn't matter to me who started it, it matters who hears it and whether it furthers our players and recruits, coaches and their families.

If not, it should wait until after the final game has been played...jmo.

Who has Hart hired besides Butch?

As far back as I can remember it's been UK and everybody else. Every now and then, Tennessee would have a good team, maybe it would be Auburn, LSU etc...

Bruce did win the regular season championship 3 times, but he finished 3,3 and 5th too...What Pearl did here on the court was awesome...for me, that's just not all there is to it.

My opinion regarding Martin and his upside is just that. I may be completely wrong. If the next coach is not Pearl and it's not Martin, seems like your just rolling the dice and hoping.

You're rolling the dice no matter what you do. As an AD you would have to minimize your risk, similar to business I would think. Who knows if Pearl could win here again? Would his checkered past make recruiting impossible? With Pearl I do think he's a coach that can do more with less. Many of the possible replacements come with risk as well but with a coach that has proven his abilities, particularly at multiple schools, the risk are minimized. But those coaches come with a much higher price tag.

Also, a little tidbit I heard tonight, Martin may not be here at his own volition. :)

InVol, we have our quote thing screwed up...

the tidbit you heard wouldn't surprise me considering...are you going to spill it?
