That is actually a decent maneuver

1) They didn't book him right.

2) They brought him back at the wrong time.

3) They rushed him too fast before he was ready to wrestle.

Total botch job.

They could/should have built a feud with him and Del Rio. It wasn't necessary for him to come right back in and win the Rumble. A strong showing with Del Rio somehow interfering and causing his elimination would have done the trick.

He came back to decent pop and then they sorta teased a feud with Del Rio. Should have run with that at as an angle, not just some sideshow to involve Batista from then until WM. Del Rio is a good heel, likes playing the jealous role. It could have worked, IMO.
