2014 Season Prediction

Wins: Arkansas St., Chatt, KY, Vandy
Toss ups: Utah St., UGA, FL, SC, Ole Miss
Losses: OK, AL, Mizzou

I would put FL in the win column but everytime I've projected a win the last 2 times in Neyland, it bit me. I hope we win 7 or at least make a bowl game at 6-6.

Utah State is a win

And I would switch Mizzou and Ole Miss

Its arkansas state btw...

say we go 2-2 in the toss-ups and we are 6-6... but I believe it is possible to go 4-0....

How so? Most of this recruiting class won't play and will redshirt. The ones who do will be inexperienced. Our entire O-line is off to the NFL, and our D-line is no better than last years. We will have a better secondary and receiving corp but that's about it. Our QBs still suck. Peterman's uncle is a friend of mine and says all the hype about Ferguson is unfounded. He's just not that good. It will be Worley, Dobbs, Ferguson, Peterman....in that order as of now.

Pearson, Malone, Hurd on offense.
Maggitt back at LB and adding Weatherd.
Several db's will contribute. Freshmen can step up much faster at skill positions. I wouldn't expect the uncle of another qb to be un-bias about Ferguson but even if he is right I think we will be far more talented. Plus, I think we will be far more athletic on the d-line. Vereen a year older. Carr coming off redshirt. Williams will make an impact I think.

UT should NOT lose to Mizzou this fall considering how many playmakers MU lost and that the game is in Neyland.

I see a lot of people focusing on the QB situation. It's important, no doubt. But I am more worried about the o line on the offensive side if the ball. Last years unit underachieved but we have no idea what we are going to get out of this unit. Worley is serviceable and should have more weapons this year. He will get us to 6-6. If Ferg passes him up in the preseason, so much the better. But all that is assuming the O line doesn't have a sizable drop off. The QB is important but the o line is the linchpin for the offense this year.

Can't speak about the defense, but the OL issue is why the Dobb Goblin is coming. His wheels are sorely needed with a leaky unproven OL. The Dobb Goblin's coming.

Oops lol. I forgot to add them but I had them as a toss up. With the way UT has been the last few years, it's really hard for me to chalk up a win against a team that went 9-5 with a bowl win. But I hope we go win em all :dance2:

Thanks I forgot to add state to ark and left out Utah Stats as a toss up. I agree I think it's possible that we win all the toss ups as well. I put Mizzou in the L category based on what Maty Mawk did against us last year.

He lit us up last year... but he's lost a ton of playmakers, and the game will be in Neyland... I think Tennessee should win that game.

After one hell of a signing day cranked out by Butch Jones and company, things are looking up, so on to how 2014 will play out.

8/30 (Utah State)W- Matt Wells Aggies are no slouch, certainly a team on a mission as of late and will bring an interesting match-up to Neyland to kick off UT Football 2014. Tennessee finds their identity and wins by a couple of touchdowns. 80/20 UT

9/6 (Arkansas State)W-One of those out of conference crush games, Tennessee rolls big with a lot of newcomers seeing some PT. 90/10 UT

9/13 (@Oklahoma)L-As much as we would all love to see a win here, The Sooners are back in that damn good state of mind. Trevor Knight leads an explosive offense and they will be playoff contenders. It will be closer than the experts think, I see a 10 point difference. 80/20 OU

9/27 (@UGA)W-A week off and refreshed from the loss, Georgia took a hit this off season with personnel and some coaching changes. Their not necessarily rebuilding but it's going to take a couple of years to get back to very good status for them. Tennessee rocks Athens. 60/40 UGA

10/4 (Florida)W-Florida had a rough year, didn't make a bowl, got beat by Georgia Southern, and their licking their wounds. They had a hell of a signing day, but it's not enough, Tennessee breaks the streak at home and we might even rush the field. 60/40 UF

10/11 (Chattanooga)W-The Vols explode to continue the 3 game winning streak, look for a whole lot of yards in the air and on the ground. 100/0 UTk

10/18 (@Ole Miss)W-Hugh Freeze has got Ole Miss back in the talk. His phenomenal signing class last year is finally maturing and The Rebels might make a little bit of a run, but Tennessee is out to prove themselves. The Rebels will not be good enough to hang, Butch Jones and staff will have it figured out racking up win number 4 in a row. 50/50 UT

10/25 (@Alabama)L-The streak continues, Alabama is just too strong, as much as we would like to see Kiffin get crushed by his former team, Saban's well oiled machine is still running hard. 80/20 UA

11/1 (@South Carolina)W-This game is a trap game, more like a resilience game, how strong is team 118? After getting smacked by Alabama, I believe they will handle Spurrier's bunch like champs. Tennessee wins by 10. 60/40 USC

11/15 (Kentucky)W-Bob Stoops did a good job by landing Kentucky in the top 20 on signing day considering it is Kentucky. Tennessee smacks the Wildcats into oblivion. 80/20 UT

11/22 (Mizzou)W-Revenge, Revenge, Revenge!!! After going to Mizzou last year and getting embarrassed, this will not be the same effort. Mizzou coming off an SEC Championship loss isn't going to be that good again. Gary Pinkel will have them up for a sub par year. 50/50 UT

11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-No more losses to Vanderbilt, a new streak will start. Vanderbilt will be beat down nonetheless. They lost recruits to Penn State, their in a state of emergency and it's going to be a while before they return anywhere near prominence. 60/40 UT

FINAL RECORD Overall (10-2) SEC (7-1)

Far Fetched? I don't think so, I believe this a year of emergence, this a year of statement, and Tennessee is back!!!

I bolded my predicted odds of winning each game. Based upon these odds I would expect a record of 7-5.

4-8 or 5-7. Utah State will be a toss-up. We will actually be fielding a worse team next year talent-wise. But 2015 will be the year we win 9 plus.

Worse talent? That would appear to be news to Butch and the staff. We will be worse experience wise, but not talent wise IMO.

Better at WR, TE, RB, QB, LB, DB and DT at a minimum IMO.

Mauk wasn't all that- 12/25 for 163 isn't very scary.

UT's D played poorly and the DC looked lost. That has to improve. Mizzou ran over UT with 339 yds rushing. Stop that... Mauk won't be too much to handle.

IMHO, that would have been a MUCH better game with Worley. He IS the definition of an effective game manager. That helps the D.

Mizzou is NOT an overwhelmingly talented team. They just aren't. If they are then recruiting rankings mean absolutely nothing which takes away the biggest source of hope we have here (Jones' recruiting success according to the recruiting sites).

They are very well coached and have players who play their responsibilities within their system. If you have talent... you can always "out talent" them. UT SHOULD have the kind of raw talent to do that this fall. They should be ready to do it by that point in the season in a home game.

BTW, your coach has to believe in his talent to out-talent Mizzou. Stoops and even Brown never doubted they had more talent and never coached as if they didn't.

Hopefully Jones won't be stuck in the "underdog" coach's mentality. There are times at UT when he just needs to realize he has the better roster and run over the opponent. IMO the most critical factor in the Vandy loss was that Jones respected them too much.

If you have issues on the OL then I'll take the guy who "manages" the O well and gets the OL in the right blocking set every time. You can take the guy with "wheels" who makes big plays outside the O but also big mistakes.

And if the O Line is "leaky", SEC defenses will make sure he spends a great deal of time out of the pocket and has plenty of opportunities to make those mistakes.

That's true. I forgot about all the rushing yards but how many did MM have?? That game still worries me. I've just been wearing the orange shades too much the last few seasons haha. Predicted 9-3 for 2012 and 8-4 for 2013.... :)

Are they going to let him fly around on that jet glider during the game? Because that would help.

I live in MO. I have a son who goes there. I follow them and pull for them most of the time when they aren't playing UT.

But it is my honest opinion that if UF and UGA play Mizzou healthy then their season would have gone much different. They are a "system" team. System teams can almost always be overwhelmed with well-coached talent.

Pretty simplistic but... good talent + good coaching > mediocre talent + good coaching.

Hopefully the coaching will improve and especially on D along with a talent infusion on that side of the ball.

Losses to OU, Mizzou, Bammer, Ole Miss, and UGA. We're gonna beat USCjr and Florida.

Unless we lose to Utah St in the opener; then our season is shot.

As much as I would love to see a 10-2 season. I do not see more than 7 wins. I think the reactions of the players after OU game will set the tone for the rest of the season. If we can take a loss and bounce back we will do good. I just hope with all this hype of the new players that we don't take that loss harder than we should.
