mods need to take that picture of AJ off the homepage

As a UT news site, it should be reported and the picture should stay up. Kids need to learn respect for authority and that there are repurcutions for their actions.

Taking the picture down and glossing over what he did shows him what, that he's above the law?

Just because he plays football for us means he should be held to a higher standard, and if he doesn't like seeing his mugshot picture on the front page, then do what you're supposed to do...

You people asking for it to be taken down have issues, he committed a crime, he laid hands on a police officer as well as providing drugs and alcohol to people at his party. He should be ashamed, and I bet he is

Drugs? I guess that I missed that, please explain.

The report also states Sapp and Johnson provided alcohol and marijuana to numerous underage individuals, including at least one minor. Officers said they observed marijuana residue in a pipe, but "the pipe was destroyed by the residents of the apartment as the ownership of the apparent drug paraphernalia could not be determined."

Thanks, I did not read the report, I just saw the charges. Possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia are both criminal charges regardless of age. They were very fortunate the police did not add theses additional charges.

AJ has done more positive things since being at UT, but a mug shot is sensational news and the media loves that because it sells. This site should promote the Vols, I agree with taking the mug shot down. IMHO.

pretty sure this site is a place to talk about all facets of Vol sports. As a fan you have to take the good with the bad. The picture on the from of VN is simply relaying news about quite a few UT football players. They had complete control on whether their face made the front page

We can replace it with this picture.

"AJ Johnson arrested!"

AJ has done more good since he has been at UT than bad, why not promote that too? The mug shot is not fair to him, and it just represents his transgressions from Sunday night. I have never been arrested, but when I was that age, I could have easily been in a similar situation. If you are going to leave it up you should also promote some of the positive things that he has done at UT. Just my two cents.

That 21 to drink rule is so arcane and absurd. It's just like the prohibition laws during Al Capone's day.

Stupid. Totally absurd to consider an 18yr old MATURE enough to serve in the Armed Forces but not enough to drink a beer? I'm way over the legal drinking age, so I got no skin in this game. Just always thought it was one of the most ridiculous laws this country has ever passed.
This x 1000.
18 year old: "So, you want me to die for my country?"

Country: "Yes, be a patriot."

18 year old: "Can I get a drink and think about it?"

Country: "Uh no, that would be wrong."

it's not my call as to what pic is used. Any story of AJ doing positive things would also likely make the front page with an accompanying pic. The story is about Sunday night and the pic accurately reflects that IMO. Again, the pic only exists because of choices AJ made and has nothing to do with VN

not disagreeing with the OP, however this is already national news and being reported on many major sports news outlets around the country, including ESPN and NFL news. A Google search shows 1,000's of pages now. My momma always said nothing good happens after midnight.

I was told 11 :hi: and to be home at 11 or you better have been working late

There's also a sign leading into every military base telling you how long it's been since their last alcohol related offense... People get busted underage drinking in the mitary also.

The guys that were just drinking will be handled internally, and they will regret getting caught.

Laying hands on a police officer, resisting arrest, drugs, and the generally lack of respect shown by a select few towards law enforcement, their teammates, their coaches, their families, and the fans will be punished accordingly.

Playing football for the university is a privilege, it's not a right. And they should respect that.

Being drunk at a party at 1am when they have classes the next day was stupid, and they should know better

I agree. Like an earlier poster said, where was the front page picture of AJ helping that homeless man?
Screw up? Suffer the consequences.
Do something honorable? No one gives a sh--.

Laws are passed for our own good because most people are too ignorant to know any better.

You are so right. The government must control every phase of our lives as we do not have the maturity or brain power to live as we see fit. And look what a wonderful, problem free country we have today as a result of all these government mandated laws. Why we have fixed the education system, the street crime issue, and the underage drinking issue. Next on the agenda is our health care. Stay tuned progressives. Big brother is in control.

Take picture down but leave the story up. His being the only picture makes him look like the ring leader. If there must be pictures then post them all. And then post a picture of every student arrested

No. When there was a mandatory draft, the age was lowered to 18. Once the draft was eliminated the age was raised again. It's an all volunteer army no one has to join. However, it was pretty funny.

My comment was more about the absurdity of being old enough to die for country but deemed too young to buy a beer.
Sorry for getting off topic since that never happens in these sort of threads. Lol

AJ gets the press when he does good and he gets the press when he does bad. Which is better than it is for the average person. Many do much good for society without publicity, make one perceived mistake, then get crucified in the press. If he is smart he will make a public apology (as well as the others that screwed up) and move on. Let's leave the judging to the professionals.

For changes in the legal drinking age and what constitutes an illegal drug, please contact your elected representatives in the district in which you vote. My personal opinion is that nothing good comes from being out late and inebriated/high. Current case in point. Been there, done that. Received nothing good from it. Moved on from it.
