'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

I like Gentry better. He has the combination of height, arm strength and mobility that is VERY rare. Most are lacking in one or more of those areas. Shorter QB's have to try and find lanes inside the pocket, to throw through. Not a concern when you are 6'6"+.

I think Gibson fits CBJ's offense the best...and if you mix in his ability to run like a 5*RB along with Hurd and the WR's we have....that's a nasty thought. That is, if you happen to be Nick Saban. :)

Jones likes big, strong QBs. LeFevour and Collaros were prototypical Jones QBs.

I agree. As a Titans fan, I've been wishing they would try to make a trade with Denver for Peyton's backup and heir apparent, Brock Osweiller (and make Jake be the backup).

I'm intrigued by Gibson's speed and athleticism, but anytime you can get a BIG, strong-armed QB...with good mobility to boot, that's more preferable.

I suspect CBJ and Bajakian have put the full court press on him this early, knowing he'll start to draw a lot of attention once he starts getting into all these Summer camps.

They want to avoid having to get in line for the Top 5 type of guys. And to be honest, there seems to be a lot of misses in these rankings. Blake Bell being one of them. He was a one of the top 3 or so, in the country. Matt Barkley wasn't the college star most thought he would be, nor have any of the USC QB's, lately.
The qb class of 2010 has to have been one of the worst classes across the country in recent memory. Crazy thing is, Tyler Bray may very well be the second best qb from that class, behind Blake Bortles. They weren't very highly rated out of high school, and most of the guys that were rated highly didn't pan out.

Besides those two, the only nationally rated qbs from that class who ever did anything notable were Sean Mannion (and not until his senior season), Cody Fajardo, James Franklin, and Devin Garnder (who still has a year left.

Look at the two rivals qb lists from 2010. Very underwhelming production, especially compared to the qbs that came out in 2011.

Edit: Sorry, saw Blake Bell and I thought of this class and got wayyyy off topic. But yeah, I don't really care how high Gentry ends up. Has all the physical tools.

Random thread to make that statement lol unless I'm missing something.

Ha, that was random. I was in the middle of an intelligible thought during a busy workday. I don't think i finished that and have no idea what point i was trying to make.

6'5 200lb is not big and strong either IMO. That's very thin for 6'5.

I mean, I'm sure they took him with the intentions of beefing him up. Obviously, a 6'5 frame can probably carry some more weight. That was from his official Cincy bio, but those aren't always correct or current. B. Kay wasn't small at all though at 6'4, 230.

James Franklin and Sean Mannion are pretty decent QB's from the 2010 class. Connor Shaw ended up pretty good as well.

But yes, overall a very weak class.

I actually agree with you about what Butch likes in a QB, just wanted to point out that Collaros isn't built like the others. He also inherited Lefevour and Collaros.

From 2007-2009 at CMU and 2010-2012 at Cincinnati, here are the heights and weights of the HS QBs Butch signed:

6'2" 190
6'2" 208
6'4" 200
6'4" 185
6'2" 220
6'3" 205
6'2" 210
6'4" 215

He runs very well in the available film...but no way of knowing how fast the little dots chasing him are. :gone:

theyre obviously slower than a 6'6" 230lb qb. im guessing theyre all 5.0 guys. that competition doesnt seem the greatest. but this kid will be a baller

Five of Rivals' top 8 QB's are from California.

Very strong group from that state this year. Town and Rosen are the headliners and possibly the 2 best pocket passers in HS right now.

Then Brady White and Blake Barnett are very good as well. Big time QB talent in Cali for the '15 class.
