Vols Going with Nike

This is a HUGE move for UT in general. Wouldn't be surprised to see merchandise sales skyrocket in the first year.

Finally we will see the orange in our jersey match the orange on our helmets!

So, UT signed with the apparel company most desired by recruits, got a top-tier deal, and the coaching staff was obviously involved...but grown fans are going to complain because THEY don't like the brand??? This might be the most ridiculous discussion in the history of Volnation.

:good!:

I'm assuming this includes all other sports as well? Basketball, baseball, etc. if so I love the move. Nikes gear is way better than Adidas, especially for football. I heard that a lot of the slipping and sliding that football players encounter were due to the Adidas cleats. I also heard that the Adidas cleats arent as comfortable or durable. Adidas is prodominatly a soccer brand, Nike is not. I'm excited.

Comin on! Tennis shoes weren't even considered cool until and MJ and Nike made em that way! People really didn't care what they wore to the gym till MJ dawned those red and black Air Jordan 1's. That was way back in 85! That's no fad! They are just on top of things year in and year out. Only the best signs with Nike! It's a fact!

Did u know MJ was a huge Adidas fan, and told his agent that's who he wanted to sign with if they came calling. They didn't..different times of course. Today they are more set-up for it obviously.

--------

I really don't care for Nike, and won't by a single one of their products. But that's me and my right. Now it is concerning that we change due to kids and letting them control things like that. It's the world we live in I guess.

Not looking forward to the ugly uniforms. Just can't stand scrolling through games and not knowing exactly who is playing cause so many teams have sold their identities away. I'm a proud traditionalist, not and old man though, so it sux in that regard to me.

Now if Hart ended up leaving a lot of money on the table to make the move then as an alum I would be concerned. If he didn't for his own long term benefit then that needs to be looked at. I will also have to think about continuing any financial donations in the future if it seems the move has any shadiness around it.

One last thing...I liked how we were different in this regard to Bama. It's like how Mich and OST were different UCLA vs USC. USCjr and Clemson. Auburn and Bama. Aggies and UTX. Ol miss and Miss St. Added a little bit to the rivalry that I liked in a sense.

Alabama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, USC, Penn State, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Army, Navy (moving to UA, but still), Air Force, Oklahoma, Clemson etc. etc. etc. all have their traditional looks in tact, other than some alternates every once in a while. Not sure why anyone thinks we'll be changing our traditional look...

To those claiming nike makes cheap materials: while that may be so in cheap goods at stores for fans, I will say that in my 4 years of college lacrosse experience, the materials made for the players by Nike were all ways the Highest quality by far. It wasn't really even close. I recall one time they messed up a sweatpant order and so to make it up to us they sent us, 2 sets of pants each and they knocked an additional 20% off of our cleat order for the year. Also it helps that I always thought they had the best looking gear as well an I guarantee you that helps sway kids in out direction as stupid as it is. I personally would be sold on Neyland.

I was hoping for under armour but Nike was a close second. Just didn't like the adidas styling. So I guess it is adious adidas.

So will Nike be remodeling our athletic facilities? lol

Adidas shoes are superior. And it's not even close. I like the warmup and training gear a lot better too.

Depends. The upper echelon nike shoes are greater than the upper echelon adidas in terms of technology. The foam used is much denser, providing the same comfort, but much more support. However, a $79.99 pair of adidas > $79.99 pair of nike. Training gear is basically the same imo

If what I was just told is true, then Nike came back back recently with an offer that far surpasses anything they had ever presented to us before and will put us in the top 5-7 contracts in the country.

I said for years I'd be stunned if that happened and we would have to take less to change. I think I'm officially stunned.

If the terms I was just given are true, then Dave Hart is some kind of wizard. In a very good way.
