Preemptive Grammys Gay Marriage Thread

I love them equally. If one needs shoes I don't buy a pair for the other just because its "equal".

But both children would have access to shoes when they were needed. Same idea. We have a segment of society without access to the same benefits their fellow citizens enjoy.

Are you talking about single people?

Heterosexual single people have access to the same benefits through marriage (to someone they actually want to marry). Gay folks do not, whether they be single or couples. You can argue they have access by marrying someone of the opposite sex, but we both know that is asinine.

I just don't think the world should have to change to cater to a few. Not sure why accepting that marriage is between a man & woman is so hard. You're not asking for equality you're trying to redefine something to cater to you. Be gay. Be happy. Whatever. I'm not gonna lose sleep over whatever happens I'm just stating how I feel. Not trying to being a homophobe just not for gay marriage. I hate liberal agendas.

Against gay marriage= a bigot, homophobic, hater and politically incorrect.

It seems in today's society one cannot have their own opinion anymore. Free thinking and personal opinions have given way to "politically correctness" and societal hype. I personally think gay marriage is disgusting and what happened at the Grammy's was deplorable.

I guess I am being a hater and politically incorrect.

Has anybody called anybody in this thread a homophobe or a bigot? You guys are the biggest crybabies in the world. The anti-gay marriage crowd wants to tell other people how to live their lives and then acts like they're being crucified for merely having an opinion. Get a clue. Cry me a freaking river.

I respect your position even if we disagree. My focus in threads like these is to provide perspective from the other side, which is likely unique to this forum.

I'll tell you what I think we all have in common - loving and protecting our families. Whether it should or not, the US government uses marriage to ascribe benefits. For someone like me marriage is the only avenue to securely establish PNOK privilege, and obtain the same estate tax and retirement benefit for a surviving partner. This is extremely important to me, and it all goes back to protecting those we love the most. In that I think we're probably very similar.

Did I say anyone in this thread called me a bigot? Nope. I am not telling anyone how to live their life. All I did was give my opinion. BTW, what do you think would have happened if after the whole gay marriage, someone said I think gay marriage is wrong and that disgusted me? You don't think that person wouldn't be ridiculed for their opinion?

So you're not against gay marriage being legal?

On what planet is it acceptable to tell a group of people their lifestyle is disgusting? Of course you would be ridiculed. Why is it so upsetting to you that they would offer a negative opinion in return?

You've been asked a number of times here but have conveniently ignored the question.

What is that YOU will have to change or give up if gay people get married? How specifically will that affect you?

It's not a hard question, so yeah... Put up or shut up.

No one cares about your opinion, but like religion - when it becomes a platform for dictating public policy - it's no longer an opinion.

Deflection and redirection.

You can't answer the question?

Again. How will two people getting married and sharing benefits affect you or your personal relationships?

You seem to have all the answers, lets hear it, sport.

It will affect everybody. Financially. Religiously. Socially. Legally. Like I said I'm against gay marriage but to each their own. There are plenty others with far harsher views than I.

Did you just reach in to your buzz word grab bag and pick out words you think might somehow apply?

I asked how it would affect you and your personal relationship, specifically.

Yet, you've managed to deflect again.

The fact is, you know as well as I do that two random people (who happen to be gay) getting married and sharing benefits won't affect you any more than two random straight people getting married and sharing the benefits.

I imagine you fall into the same category of those that hide behind biblical "abomination" crap when really, deep down, you're against it because you think it's icky and its you're way of sticking it to them.

I actually feel pity for you.

Exactly my point. Everyone has to agree with public policy and nobody can have an opinion against it. Thanks Stalin.

Its acceptable on this planet because every human being is different. Not everybody likes and accepts the same thing. There are those who believe gay marriage should be legal and those who believe it should be illegal. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT.

It would not upset me at all if they would give me a negative opinion in return. Thats the point. They are allowed to give their opinion. If I told a group of homosexuals that their lifestyle is disgusting, so what? They can get mad at me or whatever. Thats fine. That is the point you obviously cannot grasp. My opinion does not reflect the general public or anyone else. It just reflects me.
