This is irrelevant to the conversation at hand. We are talking about gays getting the same marriage rights that you enjoy.

Yikes. How painful would that be? To be completely honest the biggest concerns for me are PNOK and retirement/estate taxation. We would actually pay more taxes if married filing jointly, but well worth it in exchange for the items I mentioned.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Are gay people not equal to straight people in the government's eyes? What about their pursuit of happiness if marrying another member of the same sex males them happy?

Either remove government from the marriage equation or make it available for ANY consenting adults to wed.

Sorry. I don't see the rights listed to married folks there, nor are they listed in Bill of Rights

It's a pseudo-semantics issue. The various items are referred to as benefits, rights and/or priviliges. Estate and retirement account taxation would typically fall under benefits, while PNOK is typically considered a right.

I have no more rights than you do as a man. Married or not. Don't give me "semantics". You and others listed it as "rights"

They are benefits. Period.

Very good point. I change my mind now, "All men are created equal".

I guess gay men should have the right to marry.

With respect, I think we're quibbling on this point. I'm fine with referring to them as benefits but the US government, the US GAO specifically, has referred to some of the items as rights.

In terms of gay population in the US I think the last I remember the estimate was <= 5%.

Enough to make you lose sleep worrying about being converted?

One may identify physically as a man, but I'd contend that men should be comfortable enough with their sexuality to not be bothered by homosexuality.

Perhaps it's a matter of anger over repressed feelings.

If its a right it would be for everyone. Do single people get these benefits (rights)?

So if they said registered Republicans couldn't get marriage benefits, you wouldn't think that's a violation of rights, privileges, or whatever you want to argue semantically? You'd be good with that?
