Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

To me , Pearl was a Mears clone. Definitely the two best eras of UT basketball. A lot easier these days with 68 teams in the tourney vs. 16 and 24 when Mears coached and had first round games vs. Teams like Syracuse. With that said, he was loaded with talent the year he had King, Grunfeld, Jackson, Johnson and Darden.

Good point about the 16 and 24 team tourney. Forgot about that.

One word: Kentucky.

Plus I was referring more to the fact it was a tougher era to make the tourney.

Hence the lack of SEC titles.

It was tougher to make it to the tournament but UK was the only program that took basketball seriously and the overall winning pct is the same as Pearl's. Plus, when Mears did get in a tournament, he consistently flamed out quickly.

Good coach, great showman, but it is very debatable that he was a more successful coach than Pearl. Pearl attained higher rankings, better tournament advances and it was against tougher overall competition.

Tom izzo suspended for 1 game bc he hired an associate of a recruit....paying him to run a camp to try to lure the recruit.

Did he lie about it?

Izzo has very few violations in his career. Been a long one too.

I don't even care about the BBQ. Violations will happen and I get that.

Sure, and I'm sure they all to to church on Sunday. You know they all lie about their violations, but not to the NCAA because the NCAA protects them and it never gets to that point.

A lot of assuming.

The NCAA did not protect Ohio State and Tressel.

The fact remains, you have to go back to the freaking '70s to find a UT coach who even compares -- and he's really the only comparison.

Lost to a Syracuse team coached by a coach in his first season and Mears LOST TO VMI in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Mears also lost two games in the NCAA tournament in 67, made it to the semis of a 24 team NIT in 68, lost in 2nd round of NIT in 1971, lost in first round of the Commissioners Cup Tourney in 74 and 75. Then lost in the opening round in 76 and 77 in the games mentioned above.

B Donovan was accused of cheating in getting mike miller by e fogle, r Williams, and mike Montgomery but only secondary violations were proven....more recently he lost contact with recruits over more violations.

So lying to protect yourself makes it unethical but committing the crime is ok.....I'm really confused by your thought process.

Violations happen. I don't judge Bruce on the violations.

But the lying? That shouldn't happen.

I understand the lying more than cheating.....self preservation is a powerful force.....why are u worried he may commit further violations then.

Because he's done it before??? He's lied before? Because if he screws up UT is screwed?

Didn't protect Stallings and Alabama. Didn't protect Eddie Sutton at Kentucky. Didn't protect Kelvin Sampson at Indiana.

Larry Brown at Kansas. Jim Harrick at UCLA. Steve Fisher at Michigan.
