He and Malone are great friends, and if he does come to UT will be a major reason why.
Yes, this class that Butch has assembled has many legacies and instate ballers. Many of those kids would not be Vols if Butch wasn't here. No way Dooley lands Hurd, Bates, The Berry twins, Malone, Gaulden, Barnett or Wharton. And he definitely doesn't have a shot with guys like Hendrix, McDowell, Blair, Pearson, etc...
And the '15 class already has 4 - 4 stars. We're sitting #4 in the country on 247 for '15 class rankings. And you know how good of shape we're in for so many more '15 ballers.
Honestly, TCV, not sure where you're going with this argument. Yes, we've lost many games lately but we're still UT, a top 10-15 program nationally, we spend more on recruiting than any other team in the country, our facilities are top notch, Neyland with 102k is hard to beat, the SEC is the best conference, we've fallen a bit but Butch is building it back. These things go in cycles and it takes time.
But we are not UNC or Miss st, those programs couldn't hold UT's jock.
All I'll say is that we had a really good shot at Pearson no matter who the coach was. I talked to him while we were waiting to get advised. When I asked him what about Tennessee did it for him, it was the history, he specifically said, "I mean...it's Tennessee!" and the fact that Justin Hunter came here and they went to nearby high schools. He didn't mention Butch until I asked what he thought of him.

Yeah, until he actually met Dooley.
