Sherman

Tell that to all the kids he helps, it's football, it's entertainment.

Wonder how today's media would react to Ali?

As entertainment, people can boo if they wish. That doesnt mean they should act like idiots, but even Erin Andrews was a bit shocked.

His blog is a good read and he gained at least one regular reader through all of this (me).

Im sure these kids parents are happy about how Sherman acted, sets a great example for those kids. Acting like a thug and taunting your opponent is okay and it will get you far in life acting like a damn fool on national TV. No Thanks!

The media loved Ali, he marketed himself well. Times have changed, it's a different world now.

Sherman smacked him on the ass, said good game and offered his hand. Was it in jest? Probably. But what Crabtree did was just as unsportsmanlike. People are making a big deal about nothing, as usual.

Sherman is the first guy I can remember taunting a defeated opponent that way, and no question, he was taunting.

Smacking a dude in the facemask happens every Sunday.

I disagree...the public hated Ali. He created racial divides, making Frazier into the white man's champ. Of course the media ate it up cause free headlines. It's generally accepted that boxers run their mouths. Ali had shock factor back then, but today he would've just been another Mayweather (or I guess he might've outdone himself and gone well beyond what he did in the 60s and 70s).

Andrews' reaction was pure gold. What astonished me more than anything is that Kapernick made that throw at that time right into Sherman's teeth. With 2 TOs and :40 left the Niners had a win for the taking but that mistake cost them.

It may have been over the top, but he just made a play that helped propel his team into the Super Bowl against the best rivalry in the NFL right now. I'm sure it was adrenaline but it was honest. Not sure my reaction would've been much different in the same circumstance. Didn't anyone else play high school opponents you despised and trash talked before during and after a game?

I think it was a missed opportunity if anything.
Just so happened to walk in and my kids are watching Friday Night Tykes. Football coaches out of control. Parents out of control. And 10 yr old kids taunting, yelling, getting flagged for hand signs in the air while running the ball, dancing over opposing team logos, and coaches trying to score from 50 yds out with 5 seconds left and up by 4 tds.
If it's ok for him to act like that, I can too type of attitude.

I wouldn't let my son play for those Friday night tykes coaches.

Good comparison. He behaved like a high school kid.

Perhaps he'll behave like a professional one day.

I've never seen that show before. What a bunch of junk. Everything that's wrong with kids sports on display. And we wonder why some of those kids get to college and coaches can't change an attitude formed over a decade.
What a mess.

He behaved like a dude who just made a play that vaulted his team into the biggest game of their lives. A tad bit more than any high school game....ever.

Difference in booing and making a guy out to be a thug for something as simple as that.

No he didn't, he acted like a fool.

2 teams go to the SB every year for the past 47 years. No one else needed to behave like a 8 year old, just him.

He is literally a dumbass.

His bragging over shutting down a "mediocre" player is the equivalent of a fan base chanting "overrated" to a higher ranked team that their team just beat. It disminshes the accomplishment. But he and fans that do that are too dumb to get that.

Agree. But the poster you responded to said he wasn't impressed and it was classless, both of which are fair opinions of an entertainer. I didn't see the word thug used but maybe I didn't read back far enough.

Regardless, we agree that it doesn't make him a thug. Besides, I'm not convinced the word thug has the same meaning to everyone.

A "professional" as defined by whom? Doctors, lawyers, nurses, bankers? Or those who don't kill patients, write death bed wills, kill their patients, or steal the world blind?

But I suppose they do all these things with sufficient on-camera BS "class"?

Must be tough.

Author doesn't even realize it wasnt his quote that caused an issue. It was the way he acted. All the rest is irrelevant. Nobody cares that he announced he shut down Crabtree.
And America isn't ready for someone from a tough background to succeed? That dude doesn't know wtf he is talking about. America pulls for the underdog. Most people simply like to see people handle their business. He didn't, and acted like that instead. Pretty simple. Doesnt matter what the background is.
What he showed is anyone can make an ass out of themselves, no matter how smart or educated they supposedly are.

The world isn't against anyone chief. Because in the general scheme of things, an NFL player had a fit after a big win and a TV camera caught it. Ho-hum. The sun still rose in the East today.

But enjoy that superiority complex.

So correct.

America doesn't pull for people from tough backgrounds? What absolute dumbassery.

Sherman inspired at least 1000 articles, blog postings, etc from absolute imbeciles.

Yes, a fit after securing a trip to the SB.

Again, what a moron.

He is a confident person and someone who remembers what others have done to them. Although, he did appear to be overtly charismatic, vengeful, and childish in the moment after the game he is arguably the best corner in the league.

Crabtree seems like a diva to me and all of this talk surrounding a charity event suggests more than is on the surface.

An apology for his actions is all that should be required.

I find it amazing that we can dictate the narrative of who this guy is as a person based on a 60 second interview clip and a gesture at a guy he admits to not liking. He became a bad guy through one act. And its not like that one act was beating up women and children or something. He said something honest in the heat of the biggest moment in his life so far. Not to mention the team he did it against is acknowledged rival coached by a man who tried to sabotage his career. Overnight he is a thug but committed no crimes. He didn't even use profanity. It's amazing because I follow the basketball game threads on this site. And people complain every game when Coach Martin doesn't have hyper-emotional reactions to every bad play. Or when he doesn't get in a refs face and get a technical after every bad call. Now someone gives some of the emotion we crave (and obviously we want it why else stick a camera and mic in a guys face as soon as the game ends) and he is a bad guy. Hmm.
