Cheek wanted pearl gone, so he told hamilton to fire him or he would be gone. Cheek is still here while hamilton is on some african safari somewhere. Cheek doesnt want pearl here and pearl doesnt want to work for cheek. Until our little booger eating buddy kicks rocks then bruce wont be back. On the other hand martin has done nothing to this point to deserve a 4th year.

And, Pearl had a similar opportunity in 2008 when he had UK at home right after Patrick Patterson was injured, and we barely won the game. That was one of Pearl's best teams against a UK team that barely slipped into the NCAAs in a game right after an injury to one of UK's best players.

Fair enough. Just don't understand some of the ridiculous talk (not from you) about Pearl being a bad coach on here. One guy said he'd be 6-11 right now with Cuonzo's team. Huh? Pearl was an outstanding coach at UT and will be again one day soon....we better hope it's at a non SEC school.

I have a hard time paying attention when someone uses those two words.
It's tough to win in Rupp. Could've kept the pedal down, instead of letting off and letting the other team take over. The game is winnable that way. Not the way we played the last 25 minutes. That was losing basketball. Just guessing, but we may have been outscored by 20+ pts in the last 25 minutes.

-we played our best
-thought we would lose by more
-nothing CM could do about it
-refs wouldn't allow it

Don't see many that are pissed that we lost. I am because of how we started and proved we could hang. We even go deeper than they do. We could've won that game. Just like that first Xavier game when we didn't do as we should, but did the 2nd time and kicked their ass.

That would have been a much better season if it wouldn't have played with Bruce suspended for eight conference games and amid the distractions of an NCAA investigation.

Yea really that was the same team that won the NIT tip off, beat #3 pitt and #7 nova. After the ncaa investigation started it created a huge distraction and the team went down hill quick

What is gonna be the Martin supporters excuse when we don't mAke the tourney this year. Our team this year is loaded with talent with no leadership I really thought this was martins year to prove ppl wrong but I guess not its time to move on

Freaking SMU got Larry Freaking Brown. UT can get a much better coach than a radioactive Bruce Pearl. Period.

You used that one season as evidence of Pearl underachieving.
I'm not making excuses for Pearl. I'm just saying you're using a very weak sample size to argue that Pearl is not a good coach.

Yes, UT can. But, will they?
What evidence suggests that UT will hire a good basketball coach? The only evidence among the past several hires that UT cares enough and is capable of hiring a consistent winner is the hiring of Pearl, unless you want to count O'Neill, because his recruiting did lead to a run of success under someone else, but unfortunately he worked for an AD who was great for football but awful for basketball.
