because we can't afford it and it is not a function of the fed govt. If it's a viable and lucrative endeavor then there should be capital lining up to fund it

1.) My post was directed at those who oppose stem cell research on a religious basis, not a financial one. I don't know why you chose to be offended at my statement.

2.) I guess we should stop researching cancer treatments if that's your reasoning.

1) no, you implied wheelchairs would become obsolete if it wasn't for the religious opposition to research. That's simply not true

2) stop govt funding of it? Sure. Maybe some of those orgs crying for your donations could actually use the funds for research instead of overhead.

No, I didn't. I guess I don't see the problem with the government offering grants for important medical research as long as it is legitimate.

Yes. My cousin had one. It treated his cancer and prolonged his life for 8 years. It didn't cure it.

Stem cells are the way to go. Government funded or not I don't care. Abort them babies and suck out the stem cells with a turkey baster. I can get a new liver and stay young forever!

They do that already. What did I read today, something like they came to a spending agreement which reverses a proposed cut to disable veterans benefits while simultaneously giving Egypt over 1.5 billion in aid. It's nice to see them give more money to Egypt than to disabled American vets..Hell, just throwing away billions in the middle east.

I don't need explain why your post was stupid then. You admit stem cells treat cancer. And if we're being anecdotal here, my father had leukemia and since his bone marrow transplant, he hasn't had any cancer come back.

A lot of people could be helped by stem cells. I think maybe the stigma would be less if we used babies from people we don't really consider real people, like Alabamians.

As a side, I wonder how your cousin would have felt about continued stem cell cancer research?

You can't seriously pretend there isn't ideologues in government and PAC that legislate limits on stem cell research based on religious rationale. That would make privately funded research impossible even if people wanted to provide capital investment in the research.

I'm not sure I would want government money going towards it either (although let's also be honest, it would be more worthwhile then some of the other nonsense my taxpayer dollars get spent on). But at the government level this is about religious morality.
