My real opinion. They do need to protect players, but they go a little overboard with it. I've seen guys go to hit a offensive player and the offensive guy dip his head, and the defender get flagged for helmet to helmet. I've seen offensive guys lower their helmet in into a defenders face as the defender is standing still in a position to make a tackle. Should be a flag on the offense. Imo Thats what bugs me, it's 100% on the defender. And some of these calls have guys going low and tearing peoples knees up. So yes they need protect guys but its all geared toward being the defenders responsibility. Plus asking guys to change over night isn't happening, its a split second decision it's not that simple.
