Y'uns have been missing what kyoon2 has been saying. He's stated repeatedly that "academic integrity" will or is being compromised. I am curious if he has heard or read somewhere that UT is a land grant university? That would seem to indicate that the administration's on-going efforts to redefine the university into a top 25 research university (publicly stated), as rated by a numbnuts magazine, just might be in conflict with its legal mission.

Sorry, kyoon2, my hillybillyease got in the way of the small, but educated portion of my brain. But we all know that land grant u's are for the poor, dumb masses as well as those that score 14's on their ACTs and play football.

Lol at most of the money being brought in by the AD for the university. Currently 0 is being given by the AD to the university. At the highest, the AD gave 6 million a year, which is barely a drop in the budget bucket.

U sound elitist up on that condescending high horse, it takes away from your argument. Diversity is one of the things that makes a University great. Much like Volnation, Everyone brings different skill sets & backgrounds into the mix. Exceptions are made for academics, finances, cultural differences, physical limitations, etc. Bringing in a few athletes that are borderline academically is no different than kids that have financial needs IMO. Its simply a different set of challenges. I graduated about 15 yrs ago, thanks primarily to the hope scholarship I wouldnt be admitted under the current standard for incoming freshman. Does that mean I am less desirable now or more fortunate then.

P.S. maybe your standard for compromise is equal to someone elses tolerance or compassion :) Whatever we believe is right or wrong, this is what I love about this forum. Open dialogue!

What do you think has been the problem with the athletic departments finances? One reason is that unlike most universities the athletic department is set up to be self sustaining which includes a 6 million dollar a year donation to the academic side. Which means the athletic department for years has ran autonomous from the academic side and in fact provides support for them. I know this is over your head which is why you probably should kept your little yappy comment to yourself. All things being equal the university actually is able to maintain more resources on their academic side due to this unique structure. So in essence it's 6 million dollars plus whatever dollar amount they receive from the state that's not allocated to the athletic department. That's the true number comparative to other state universities, most of which have athletic departments that receive state funding.

As for being a troll, you still mad because I took some jabs at you for saying high school was harder than college for you? Or are you mad that you drive a Prius around campus and sell textbooks to college kids for a living? Either way, get over it. None of your breakfast club buddies post here anymore. compromise means to weaken by accepting standards that are lower than desirable. When you said, "If you honestly think that allowing a couple of at risk football players into UT every year is compromising the university's integrity, then you are the one who needs to get checked" you gave us the clearest definition of how not to use that word. Even if you argue that you are using a colloquial meaning of the word, you would still be wrong. Just in case this is still unclear, I will repeat, you do not know how to use the word. :hi:

The university's operation is way greater than a football program, as much as people would deny that. Last year, the AD gave less than 2 million dollars to the university. Please tell me how significant that is to the university's 1.6 billion dollar budget.

regular students generate revenue through tuition? around 20,000 of them pay at least 8000 a year. that's about 160 million dollars...:salute:
