'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

Actually, I'm a bean counter and that's part of the problem. You have non-bean counters running the show which means they don't have enough sense to recognize where the revenue is generated in their university. Hamilton was a bean counter, but was also a glad handed 'yes' man to whomever was in power. You have people making financial decisions who are liberal arts majors (Susan Martin) and agriculture majors(Cheek).

While having a business degree may not be the only way to run a university, you still need your right hand to have a strong financial background i.e. a CFO type person. And one that puts the president (CEO) in check when they are talking out of their ass. That's why a strong minded no nonsense type person should replace Susan Martin and advise Cheek to stay in his lane while he/she does what he/she is paid to do.

Don't bring Ag majors into this.

FTR Kamara only played(practiced) at RB for UA. The word was he would not get redshirted and see the field based off camp. Only T Jones was expected to be redshirted. After he injured his knee in fall camp and returned he played mostly on the scout team as the opposing RB the team would face.

Either way reports were very good on him at RB and I am sure wherever he ends up he will be an impact RB for that team.

Oh ok then that makes a little more sense but even still he came in with a class that had 2 5* RB's plus what Ala already had. I understand wanting to have a chance at a ring, but especially with kids I see most choosing immediate playing time over sitting a few yrs. Not to mention he isnt the typical Saban RB. UT used to be like Ala is now with the big physical RB's that would just assume run over you than around you.

I think most UA fans were shocked and still are we pulled all 4 last cycle. Especially considering Yeldon and Drake were true freshman last season. But most assumed what others did as well that one or two may not last and transfer.

I think most saw Kamara as that C Jones type of player. Someone that could run, catch, and do returns. Just got off to a slow start and never manifested itself.

Actually i think you were both making the same point just maybe disagreeing on if it should be a bean counter or salesman calling the shots!:)

So he had behavior and grade issues at Bama, but UT should welcome him with open arms? Smh at some of you.

If he spends a year at a JUCO college and gets himself together why not? I mean it worked for Auburn with Cecil...err...I mean Cam Newton. Cameron Clear is ballin in College Station. It's part of the game within a game. Doesn't sound like he's robbing anyone at gunpoint or smoking synthetic weed like Michael Dyer, and a lot of people here wanted to give him another chance. Let the process play out, and see where we are at.

Pretty much this. If this kid gets his act together and wants to play here, there is no reason to say no other than holding a grudge over a decision he made as a teenager.

It doesn't help when high-ranking members of our own admin believe mandatory French and German Lit courses are better time and money spent than one dime spent towards athletics.

Kinda strange to hear juicy details of a employee being fired for being "less than chaste" with college athletes, right? Like the kind of details only those within the upper-echelon of UT admin would know...and that it would potentially hurt the AD...

Wait, wait, wait. You're telling me the administration of a public University is more concerned with educating people than with athletics? WTF?!?! Where do they get off? How dare they do their jobs like that!

Sorry bud, but UT will always be first and foremost an institution of higher learning. The Athletic Department has to get their **** together financially first before we start pointing the finger at the University Administration for putting emphasis on the soul reason for the University's existence. Let's keep some perspective here.

Mike Hamilton ran the department into the ground when he got pushed around by boosters and coaches into spending money the department didn't have on fat contracts and salaries for people who weren't doing their jobs or weren't doing anything at all. Then he makes a disastrous hire in Lane Kiffin that blew up in his face, then makes an equally disastrous hire with Dooley that further sent the football program into a financial black hole. Then he got gut punched when Pearl decided to be an idiot and lie to the NCAA. He had no choice but to fire him, destroying most of the fan equity that the Bball program had built up. So there you go. You want to blame someone for the Athletic Departments financial problems, blame Hamilton and the coaches he let walk all over him.

Um, really? After a year at a juco some of you guys say "no thanks?"

Have the last 5 years been, well, cool with you? Maybe I don't "get it" but I'm ready to celebrate some wins.

You're giving Mike Hamilton way too much credit and way too much blame. His direct supervisor was non other than Jimmy Cheek.

Still amazed that he and other RBs keep going to Bama, knowing that they are so deep at that position already. Guess playing early doesnt matter to them

What kid coming out of high school doesn't want to believe they are that special Jamaal Lewis, TJ Yeldon, Maurice Clarett type back?

Obviuosly, the law of averages is against them, but pretty much every 17-18 year old I've ever known feels invincible anyhow, feel they can/should be the exception and not the norm.

That's where having the right people in their ear and a good support system comes into play.

It is a big selling point for these kids, but many of these coaches exploit the young men's egos as a work around:

"Yeah, we're deep at that position, but a special talent like yourself could earn your spot early."

Then, when they don't play, they have the out that the player is not working hard enough to earn the spot.

Richardson, Yeldon, and Drake all saw significant PT in their first two years at Bama. As the other poster said, it's not that Bama doesn't play kids early, it's just that every 5* thinks he's gonna be the one to win the snaps. Don't we always say we want kids who aren't afraid of competition?

It's perfectly normal for an institution of higher learning's admin to place an significantly larger emphasis on education. Its another to have an agenda that specifically aims to denigrate the AD.

While I'm not specifically referring to Cheek, I am, however, referring to the University Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor.

Are you seriously accusing the university of having an agenda for destroying the AD? Do you have any evidence to even hint this? :eek:lol:

Susan Martin, the Provost, is that nerd you knew in high school who hated the football players and thought all the money should be given to the arts and science labs.
