If you don't find the World Cup exciting as hell, then you aren't a true sports fan. There really isn't anything else in the world that brings competitiveness to a game from all 4 corners of the globe like the World Cup. It's what the Olympics pray to be.

So if you don't like soccer, you're not a true sports fan? Whatever.

Sorry but America agrees. Rugby is a much better sport IMO. Add some vicious hits to soccer, widen the goals, and I might watch.
This. I'd love to see hockey style fights, shorter fields, wider goals, and no yellow/red cards. Maybe Dana White can start a soccer league?

I wish hockey would widen the goals and eliminate offsides... I mean wth? On a fast break and you can't precede the puck across a blue line? Crazy. That alone would make the scores 10-8 and would be fun as hell to watch

I'd watch. I never really got into hockey because I wouldn't know who to root for. The Thrashers were a joke (and now they're gone), I'm not big on Nashville teams in general either.

Soccer just needs some freak athletes. They need a Lebron out there knocking everyone over scoring 2+ goals a game, etc.

The NHL just needs to go to European size ice..that would open things up more & allow for more scoring.

As far as the World Cup, I'm not the biggest soccer fan..I occasionally play FIFA but whenever the World Cup comes on I'll definitely be glued to my tv the whole time. I guess it's just sort of an American pride thing..definitely exciting to watch.

CR7 is a freak athlete.

There a lots of reasons CBJ needs to guide us to a bowl game next fall. The fact that soccer is dominating the discussion in this thread in December is definitely high among them.

Gotta disagree with your stance on offsides. As someone who plays ice hockey, offsides makes the game a lot better. Higher scoring does not always make for a more interesting game.

You couldn't pay me to walk across the street to watch it.

Soccer, like baseball, sucks. It is a low scoring, boring affair. You watch an hour and a half of dudes trotting up and down the field and end up with one mistake where a guy plays kickball to win 1-0. Sorry but America agrees. Rugby is a much better sport IMO. Add some vicious hits to soccer, widen the goals, and I might watch.

I guarantee if sports decided a goal in soccer/hockey and a run in baseball counted for 6 points instead of 1, many Americans would find it more interesting. Ridiculous notion that I'm not in favor of, but it's true.

People here would love a 21-14 football game but hate a 3-2 soccer game "cuz only 5 goals were scored."

I don't understand. Every country in the world loves soccer (except Canada), so the US has to hate soccer. It's an excellent sport. There is excessive flopping at times... but there is a reason the entire world loves it

Not always, but it does in this instance

I think it's pretty obvious soccer is a growing sport in the US. People will have to get used to it. The US is big enough to support 5 major sports.

No, we hate it because it isn't interesting. There isn't any physical domination. There isn't ever an instant where one team is crushing the will of the other team. There are no phenom athletes making insane plays. If Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, and megatron played soccer, it might be interesting, but with a bunch of pedestrian looking folks whose physical talent doesn't go far beyond running, it just lacks appeal.

Most games would be decide 5 to 4 in football if the reverse were true... Soccer matches aren't usually close to 9 scores per game. So it would still be boring. Like 7-6 football game
