On a very related note, if I'm Saban I retire at Bama. If he leaves them for a NFL team or especially Texas, I seriously fear for his life. No joke. Someone will probably try to kill him.

Harvey Updyke already tweeted his ok for Saban to go to Texas...done deal :)

Obviously, our fans would show up more for a bowl than Vandy fans, but unfortunately we didn't win enough games.

There are already at least 75 bowl eligible teams and only 35 bowl games. There are at least 5 teams getting left out already. Forget about UT bowling at 5-7.

I think we could lose every game for 5 years and we'd still have more fans show up for a game than Vandy would even if they had won every game for the same 5 years. There's just not enough people in the world that will ever care that much about Vandy nor will there ever be. jmo.

If for some reason we make it to a bowl this year, it could be because we have a lot more money than the other guys and anyone who wants to make some money is going to make a lot more with us than with most anyone else. Guaranteed. Our team may not always show up but the fans do.

Good solid post ...... we need wins and NO MORE 7-5 seasons ... we are TENNESSEE and we should NEVER have a year where we miss a Bowl game NEVER...

We had three REAL shots at winning one more game imho Ga, Fla and Candy and let them all slip away... we CAN NOT have this type of performance at TENNESSEE

We usually see eye-to-eye, Coasty...agreed, once again. We can make excuses or come up with what we feel are legitimate reasons for why we lost those games but the fact still remains, we LOST those games. I honestly don't care why anymore. And, perhaps this isn't fair, if we're not winning by Butch's 3rd year, it's time to move on.

People will harp about stability and the amount of coaches we've had over the last decade...I REALLY DGAF anymore. I'd MUCH rather rock the boat than accept mediocrity.

The "support our coach" mentality has also passed its expiration date with me, too. I support MY UNIVERSITY.

Here's the thing...I really think that Butch has it in him to win here but, I've grown HIGHLY intolerant of five-win seasons and my patience does not exist anymore, when it comes to finding the right coach for my school. Three years. That's the time frame. He has three years to prove he can win.

Year one was a failure. Hopefully the off-the-field strides he's made will translate to the W column in year two...

This is music to my ears (lots of optimism moving forwards):

Senior tailback Rajion Neal said every single team meeting felt like a family event, and he talked at length about how much he thoroughly enjoyed the experience, despite the 5-7 record. These guys liked each other. They liked their coaches. They liked just about everyone. They wanted to fight for the people to their left and right. And that, as much as anything, allowed this team to continue fighting despite a series of setbacks that didn’t really surprise anyone.

All this talk of a bowl at 5-7 seems silly.

Looks like an 8-4 WKU team looks likely to be left out.

@jppalmCBS: WKU leaving for CUSA next year. RT @slmandel WKU beat ArkSt SAT, finished with a better record, and GoDaddy bowl still took Ark St.

You're not alone OB.

I'm thinking three also...as long as he's not 02 against vandy.

Brian Randolph admitted to reporters after the game Saturday that his shoulder had been bothering him "a lot" all season. At one point during pre-season camp, Randolph admitted that he wasn't sure if he'd be able to play at all this season. He didn't go one practice without a green non-contact jersey.

It’s tough to articulate just how tough and mature a player has to be go through an entire season of practice without being able to tackle and still play pretty well on Saturdays. That certainly wasn’t lost on Tennessee’s staff, including secondary coach Willie Martinez, who praised Randolph’s toughness and maturity in handling the situation the past few months.

“Not just any kid could handle that, for a lot of reasons,” Martinez said. “But (Randolph) isn’t just any kid.”

My side of the family met for Thanksgiving dinner last night. My brothers were both 4 year started at Vandy and I caught living hell from them last night over the outcome of our game with them.

My brothers(who are close with Watson Brown and a couple other coaches on the Tennessee Tech star) told me that Watson Brown told some people that allowing Da'Rick Rogers onto his team was the biggest mistake that he ever made in all of his years of coaching.

During his final game at Tech, Da'Rick took his pads and uniform off on the sidelines because he was not happy and was not getting his way. He was poison to the locker room.

Same thing happened to MTSU last year. Went 8-4, but the Sun Belt screwed them over because they were going to C-USA this year.

Pretty good luncheon for future Vols...

Mr. Football winners:

Zack Stewart - Class A lineman
Jack Jones - Class AAA lineman
Todd Kelly - Division II A back
Derek Barnett - Division II AA lineman

Also, top Vol target Josh Malone won Class AAA back of the year and 2015 target Brant Mitchell won Division II A lineman.

Josh Ward just reported that a national analyst (can't remember who) stated that an unplanned team meeting was to occur at Washington today.

If true, sounds like Sark to USC.
