USC looking at Franklin to take head coach job

I'm telling you, the man should bolt now if he's smart. Who on earth is gonna bail them out of close games when they don't have Matthews next year? They lose their starting back and the only playmaker the have. They're going to be hot garbage next year. They will regress, and Franklin knows this. They've hit their glass ceiling.

Chris Petersen will be the new head coach, JMO. The people who are giving Franklin all this credit like he's Vince Lombardi can cease licking his boots---if we played UMass and Wake Forest in our non conference we'd be bowl eligible right now. Franklin is a good coach because he can schedule the "right" opponents.

Anyone who does not think Franklin is a good coach is a fool. A d&$@head, ahole, other terms also, but a quality coach.

It's really not a pride thing, it's a fact thing. Check out the combined record of the teams Vandy has beaten this year (and last). It's a world under .500. This year? One team with a winning record, a battered Georgia team who would have beaten Vandy if not for 3 4th quarter turnovers. Would have lost at home to Wake Forest if not for a long 4th down conversion miracle catch (again) by Matthews.

Hardly world beating stuff there, even if it is being done at Vandy. That being said, he might be a great fit for USC, and following he who would not be named has a certain poetry to it. Good luck JF.

I'm so damn tired of people saying so and so wouldn't have won if not for turnovers. That's part of the damn game. Vandy has one of the best TO margins in the SEC, they create TO's. If we didn't have 6 vs UF we may win; but we lost because we did. Good teams make plays and don't turn it over themselves.

Two that we couldn't beat. Mind you he also did that on a smaller budget and with players who could likely meet a higher academic academic standards than our guys.

You think Peabody has higher academic standards than UT?

Franklin is using the last bit of gas in the car that Bobby Johnson left him. That car has been coasting downhill the last two years; most of the playmakers have been Johnson's recruits. He will have two 9 win seasons and have only beat 3 or 4 winning teams. If he succeeds at USC, he will personify "Fake it til you make it"

People have short memories.
The situation reminds me of Ole Miss. Orgeron brings in the great recruits, gets fired. Nutt is hired and they go to a bowl game, everyone thinks Nutt is great. Orgeron's recruits graduate, Ole Miss starts losing, Nutt fired.

He's been decent.

That said, hard to comprehend a more favorable situation for him given the state of UF, UGA, and UT this year.

One thing is for sure...it will not remain this way and he better get while the getting is good. USC is a better job compared to Vandy as well.

Are people too full of pride to admit what Franklin has done? Vandy was a bottom dweller for decades. Now they are winning 9 and bowling. I hate them. I don't like him. I hope he leaves.

They play nobody dude. They buy out their hard OOC games. They are a ****ing joke. Get off his nuts bro.

Vandy was 2-10 the year before Franlkin. He took them bowling his first season. And both since

What most people don't realize is Franklin walked into a decent situation. All these guys graduating are Johnson recruits that RS'd.

At some point, people are going to stop grading Vandy on a curve.

What Franklin has done at Vandy is out standing. Vandy hasn't ever beat bad teams. Franklin managed to beat teams they usually would find a way to lose to.

I will say it is somewhat skewed because if Bobby Johnson would've played Franklin's OOC he would've won 7-8 a year.

The only area I would say Franklin has gotten to much credit is recruiting. You can't name me 2-3 kids who are sophomores and younger at Vandy that would make fans excited. Bobby Johnson left some good players. (Stacey, Matthews, Ladler, Marve, Hal, kid in Green Bay)

They could do worse. I don't think Franklin's stock will ever be as high as it is now. I think he's pretty much hit the ceiling at Vandy. Back to back 8-4 is a eye opener at Vanderbilt.

What he's done at VANDY is outstanding. Hell, I'd trade Vandys last 3 years for ours.

That's not really saying much. He beat a lot of bad teams. He's proven to be a decent coach, which is more than we can say for our previous coach. You even admitted his second biggest win this year was over Tennessed. Would you hire Franklin if you were USC? Would you want Franklin here?

I don't go the nuts route. Been watching vandy for 30+ years and he has taken them to wins, bowls, records and recruiting rankings they have never had.
Again, I'm just not emotional about it, as much as I despise him and the program.

Woulda, coulda, shouldas. Hell, we could have been 12-0 right now with a few of those!

Don't get frustrated... You are both right. Franklin has obviously done a good job, but it is also undeniable that schedule and timing on UGA and UF helped his record this year.

He's a worm... Vandy Sux... Please go to Cali!!!

Personally, I think Franklin would get crushed in the PAC-12. Plus, USC is more likely to go for a high profile coach. They don't think of themselves as a school that brings in an "up and coming" coach. They bring in a "brand name" that's had success at a major program. I think this is what may keep them from going for Peterson at Boise.

Pete Carrol and Lane Kiffin think the criteria you stated is incorrect. Neither were brand names. Pete Carrol was down and out after getting bombed in the NFL, and Lane was an up and comer coming off 7 wins.

Over Butch? No

Over Dooley or Kiffin? Yes
