Agreed, they were very improved, offense wasn't really good but, it's hard to bounce back after loosing players the caliber of Bray, JH, and CP

yeah. i agree.

still questioning a ton of the calls that were made though in general. it comes down to if that's all we really have in the play book or if that's all they're willing to call because of personnel they've got.

Most people praised the coordinators for the USCe and UGA game. We have played an extremely tough schedule. Both sides of the ball laid an egg against Vandy, but games like that happened. We still held Vandy under 15 points with the lackluster performance.

Meh. I thought the OC had a good half vs both. The defense gave up points and benefited from key injuries against UGA.

And he continued to call plays that we can't run.

Stick with what works. Run the freaking ball. No sideline to sideline throws. No freaking end around garbage. Run the ball to set up and establish the downfield passing game.

The same was said about Sanders when we got rid of him so we replaced him with Clausen. Now Sanders will be the OC in the national championship and well we know what happened with Clausen.

If Hurd proves to be elite, our D becomes average in the SEC, and we #FreeRiley, I think this team can win 8 games next year.

Hurd and the QB truly are the keys. If defenses have to respect both, we will be able to put a lot of pts on the board.

Yea they just have to rush more than the highest total since 1998

OLine was disappointing at times.... see Florida game this year.

But there were other times they were great. they didn't live up to the hype all together but by no means were they the most disappointing group.

Not always pretty but I was very happy to see the team come out and compete. It was a great feeling to watch the UT players come over and celebrate with the fans as opposed to watching the other team celebrate.

Also it was great to get Neal 1,000 yards and for Dobbs to get some touchdowns.

Met some great fellow Vol fans at the game. Here's to a good offseason and 2014.

JJ Green isn't a bad runningback. He is no Gurly or Marshall but he is a quality back. The white guy is awful, on the other hand. They also still had Murray and the same line and one of their leading receivers. There is only so much you can do with our backend speed. We will more than likely know next year if he can get it done or not. Having Stripling as a dline coach gives me faith that our defense can take a huge stride next year.

Lol @ x number of wins is unacceptable.

We graduate like 26 players this year. Probably 5 of them will be drafted.

Our schedule is no easier.

Next year's team will be another 5 to 7 win team. It's 2010 all over again, except with less veteran leadership.

Butch has 3 or 4 years unless you got an extra million laying around to fund the buyout.

Especially with Pearson/North/Malone/Pig at WR, and then Helm/Wolf at TE

I agree, They were definitely overhyped, but that doesn't mean they weren't a top 5 sec line. They weren't perfect fits for this system and our much better in pass blocking(the most important thing in the NFL).

They weren't great in the Vandy game either.

I think Dobbs had an inspired performance really against Kentucky.

I think a lot of his problem is inexperienced receivers. That's why I think he was able to hit Devrin Young a ton. Dobbs seems like he has decent decision making...albeit not incredible because of the amount of INTs...but this kid is a true freshman with no targets. and frankly some questionable playcalling by the OC.

you know he ran for a TD tonight that was longer than any one Tee Martin made?

I have to agree with you that we are a 5-7 or 6-6 team next season. The talent is too young to be ready to be difference making yet.

What we have returning is not world beating talent. We are still 2-3 seasons away.

We are the reason that Mizzou is going to the SECCG instead of SCar. If we hadn't beaten SCar they go to Atlanta. Your welcome Mizzou. I am ready for spring ball.

We've been at this level for six years running. And my guess is that we will have at least one more year of it before better days come.

Tonight actually gave me much hope, and brought me back from the ledge I was on after the Vandy game. The team didn't quit on Butch. There's something going on behind the scenes that is special, and that didn't exist under Dooley.

I know what you're saying and I'm sure you don't mean it this way but, the mindset that "I feel better because they didn't quit on the coach" breeds nothing but mediocrity.

It has become inherent to culture of our fans. Its become acceptable for the guys to simply show up and play.

I'm over that. Its the same mentality that gives everybody a trophy at the end of the year.

This year's team played the toughest schedule in school history, which included picking up the two best teams from the SEC West. We had a two deep littered with true freshmen and (former) walk-ons. The roster was so bad our starters on defense had to take an inordinate amount of snaps and were clearly wearing down. We lost our two best defensive tackles, lost two quarterbacks, our best wide receiver and had many players fighting injuries.

This year could have been much, much worse. Florida started with a bunch more talent, faced a raft of injuries and finished worse than we did.

In fact, an argument could be made that we had no truly bad losses and one really good win. (We all utterly despise losing to Vandy, but an objective third party observer might note that Vandy is an eight win team with a third year coach who has had time to build his roster, such as it is- as to Florida, they were a much better team when we played them).

Cal, NC State, Arkansas, Kentucky and probably others had terrible experiences with their first year coaches. Ours wasn't great but it was better.

As a point of reference, Clemson is 10-2. They played two teams that we did, beating UGA at home by 3 (we only lost by 3) and losing to USCe by two TDs (we won). My guess is Clemson has a much better two deep than we do.

The future is bright and Butch will win a lot of ball games for us. I'm very much back on the Butch train.

Sorry for the long post. Go Vols!

1. We still lost to Florida, regardless of our record at the end of the year. Its like a few (more than a few) years ago when we BACKED INTO the SECCG after getting DEMOLISHED by Florida and Bama...even if we had won, we'd have been considered the flukiest SEC Champ ever. So long as we lose to our rivals, I'm not happy. Period.

2. Bad losses: UF, UGA, Mizzou, AU, Bama, VANDY. I will not accept a moral victory. Seriously, that's what we used to make fun of Vandy about....really.

I like your optimism but I refuse to look for the silver lining anymore. Its time we start calling a spade a spade, this year sucked. Every year we've had a losing record has SUCKED.

The future is promising, don't get me wrong but, I'm no longer going to pin my hopes on things off the field. If CBJ can't get it done on the field, then he's not getting it done. I hope he can but rationalizing a losing season like that is what keeps unqualified people, in positions of power.

I refuse to think like that anymore.

Maybe. But kids are coming in and making the difference earlier and earlier. I think mostly because recruiting rankings are getting more accurate.

It's very unlikely Helm and Wolf will be ready to be starters in the Sec next year. They won't be able to block well enough. We better hope Quinn and downs get stronger and become better blockers

We could just bring Helm in for passing downs since he is a receiving TE
