I would say not to give up on Dobbs. He has the ability, just needs more experience and time in the system. I think he will come out of next spring the starter and have a much better year. JMO

I don't think he is the guy. Maybe in time.

But, from the play calling Saturday it sure seems like the staff doesn't believe in him.

I think it's more who's around him and his inexperience that they don't believe in. Imagine your stud WR goes down and you have to trot Josh Smith out there as a deep threat.

Actually, Dobbs took us up 17-7 with his legs, were it not for the block in the back. So, Dobbs is not the reason we lost.

How are some people so ****ing stupid? He a freshman that has played 4 games, 3 of those against top ranked teams. Of course he doesn't ****ing look good.

You can ALWAYS see flashes or sparks of greatness from true freshman qbs who will be good later. Besides his scrambling, there are zero sparks with Dobbs. Zero....he hasn't evenvput it in the endzone once! And 50 something yards against Vandy????????? Really????!!! We could have plucked Bray for example as a senior in high school with no practice at UT under his belt and he would easily have had more than 50 yards.......some guys just have it and some don't...Dobbs clearly doesn't have it....worst passing qb I have ever seen to get meaningful playing time at UT...kid is an epic bust.

I am a little stunned at Dobbs lack of pocket presence!
For a true freshman surrounded with elite wr's, rb's and an over achieving o-line in the toughest country in the land. There are 0 reasons for him to ever take a sack or throw a int. He needs to go on and transfer to Ga state or move to a skill position.

He is a freshman; therefore, I didn't expect much but I did expect him to play better in the Vandy game enough to win the game. He basically lost the game. Worley has been the best QB to play for us this year which is not saying much. I believe Worley is our starter next year unless there is a huge step forward on Dobbs play in the Spring. Ferguson could be the answer, but we haven't seen him in live action to make a judgement. From what I've seen, Worley will be starting next year and that doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Dobbs has shown us why Butch Jones didnt want to play him. He simply isnt at that level. Watching him im not yet convinced he ever will be. Guess it shows Jobes was right all along going with Worley

Apparently you have never seen Dobbs throw a deep ball.

I admit he needs improvement but he has no confidence in his throws. The ball Josh Smith dropped was right on the money and it was relatively deep. I'm not saying he will be a great quarterback by any means but great receivers will help even an average quarterback.

I think in time Dobbs will be fine. He does need some help with play calling from the sidelines. It was awful again. Eric A. this morning pointed out how simply putting a man in motion can help a young QB determine zone or man to man defense. We saw none of that Saturday.

I'll admit, when I first saw Dobbs and his cannon arm and running ability, I thought he would us to new levels. I was wrong. Yeah, he can run, but his pocket presence and ability to throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield accurately is terrible. I'm not sure if that can be taught during the offseason or not. When you don't throw a single touchdown pass in any game you play, there is something wrong. Here is to hoping the QB competition in the spring will yield a good QB for us next year. As much as I was disappointed in Worleys play, we would have won against Vanderbilt and probably would have been competitive against Missouri. Between Worley, Ferguson and Dobbs, surely we have a competent SEC QB going forward.

There were many on this site comparing him to Tee Martin after he looked ok in the Bama slaughter. To me, that is an indication of the football IQ of many people who post here. Unless, he is hurt, he is not the answer at qb for next year. Give someone else at chance, it cant get much worse. PS- don t count Ky as a win, til next Sunday, this Vol team finds a new way to lose almost every week.

I understand all the excuses for Josh but until the final 30 seconds he was 10-16 for 16 yds and 2 picks against, for almost half a game their entire second string secondary . Josh has failed to throw a td pass in 14 quarters of play .
His play Saturday was terrible and that's being kind . If Riley isn't the answer we may be in for a longer recovery period than expected . Because , while Butch is tearing it up on the recruiting trail , the one thing he hasn't done is secure a quarterback.

Well I think Smith has had one TD hit him in the hands which he dropped and another deep ball hit him in the face mask which he dropped.

Dobbs may end up being a bust but let's not pretend he has a lot of talent or experience around him. Our Oline for all their hype was treated like a bunch of pansies by an undersized Vandy Dline.

The sad thing is most are too damn clueless to perceive the sarcasm of this post.

Help me out... when Peterman fails badly after a full spring with this staff... Dobbs fails badly after 8 or so games plus August with this staff... Worley shows only marginal improvement and is the target of fan outrage...

At what point do you question the OC's ability to develop QB's?

CBJ recruited Dobbs to play at Tennessee specifically.

He didn't recruit any of the other QB's on our roster and I hear that we won't recruit another QB for 2014.

It will be interesting who we target for 2015.
