'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

He has quite a few elite recruits from his own state working on him on our end as well.

It will come down to two things:

How truly important is being close to home for his family?

Is he buying into Butch's pitch of staying home and being part of the legacy that rebuilds your home state school?

If the only factor was how the teams were playing now and which team had the better QB situation it would be Clemson every day...but it isn't.

Completely understood. Just different selling points, so ultimately it will come down to what's the most important to him? Vols have a lot of edges, imo, which is why I lean them.

But while you may have a lot of elite recruits in his ear, which of those are going to be throwing him the ball and are half as talented as Watson? Chad Kelly is currently our 3rd string, and would have started for Tenn from day 1 this year. Just hard for a WR to completely ignore the QB situation.

What QB situation ? I bet ole Fergie is a beast waiting to be unleashed, also Dobbs throws a lot of catchable balls that get dropped, that has to hurt his confidence

If you're saying the QB situation at Tenn and Clemson are comparable for the immediate future, we'll just have to agree to disagree, b/c our opinions are just too far apart.

I've been with Josh between 8-10 times the past couple months and am related to someone who is with him weekly. They talk constantly and text when he is on visits. He has never said the name Clemson around either of us. He has talked about Tenn, Georgia, FSU, Bama, OSU, but not so much as mentioned Clemson. When he went to Clemson for the opener against UGA he spent the entire evening hanging out with Georgia players, not Clemson. I would be surprised if Clemson is his pick.

That is actually the opposite of what I am saying.

I said that if all he is judging his decision on is QB position in the near future and team success the decision would be Clemson every day.

My point was if Butch has sold him on coming to TN and helping rebuild TN as an instate player then the QB situation won't matter.

If he hasn't then, yes Clemson's QB advantage is a very big deal.

Get it?

Clemson and the ACC can suck a fat one. Junior varsity league.

They may be in an inferior league but I am going to have to disagree with a lot of the posters here that act like you can't get exposure at Clemson.

Hell their football entrance/bus ride thing to start the game has been played 3 different times completely through on national TV this year.

Boyd and Sammy are household names, how can they be if Clemson doesn't get national exposure?

I understand thinking TN has a good shot here, I just hate how our fans don't give good programs the respect they deserve.

If this was the gamecocks I would understand!

SIAP: But this is from Corner (Buck Fitzgerald) on VQ.

I have said over and over again, Josh still has an OV to Clemson and that is the team to worry most about IMO bc of the relationship with the incoming qb. I also would not count out UGA.

I know all about Clemson, I have family members with season tickets. I've been to many of their games, it's a good time and a nice campus. I don't need a lecture.

That bus ride charade is Bush league and they're still in a basketball conference. Sure they get exposure, usually the kind where they get blown out by WVU, FSU or lose the easy ones to BC or Maryland. And this Saturday will be 5 straight losses to the cocks. Clemson is a top 3 team in the 4th or 5th best BCS conference, yay.

Not giving you a lecture man, just don't understand the hate they get on this site, obviously I've lived in SC about 6 years now so I think of it differently. The cocks are the enemy to me and Clemson is an ally in that battle.

I just think compared to a lot of programs that we compete against for recruits, they would be one we had a mutual respect for.

It is frustrating though, knowing how much better our record could be the last 5 years if we had played the same competition they had.

Don't feel too bad for them, they dish out plenty of hate for UT and the SEC.

True, which is silly.

Anyway back to Josh. I think Butch has effectively sold him on being a part of the legacy that brings Tennessee back to prominence and that will trump the idea of playing with Watson.

I'm hoping Buck Fitzgerald is trying to help him build some suspense back into his announcement after the whole FAA signing debacle.

Buck has been trying to keep everyone guessing for awhile now. Maybe I'm wrong and Josh doesn't pick UT, it's certainly possible. But I'd be very surprised if that happened.

Buck knows a lot of what is going on, but Josh Malone is the one prospect who is as tight-lipped as any recruit we have seen.

The only people who know whats going on are Josh, his mother and father, and Brent Alexander.

I hope Josh realizes how important he is to our future offenses.

Having him, North, Pearson/Pig and Helm on the field together will be a HUGE help for whoever turns out to be our QB.

Combine that with a beast stud Hurd in the backfield and I think a QB who can just get the ball in the playmakers hands will have success.

And we're around the 13th or 14th best team in the SEC. What's your point? Clemson has been able to recruit with all but the top SEC teams the last 5 years, and unlike UT, they've had some actual meaningful games and BCS bowl games on their resume.

Just as importantly, they have one of the nation's top QB recruits incoming, we don't have one at all.

We're not in a position to mock any other school, especially considering we have a loss to KY and 2 losses to Vandy in recent years.

It would hardly be surprising if Malone chose Clemson.

Pretty much what I was saying. Except we have one team we can still mock.

THE COCKS! We beat one of their best teams with our worst team and they still have a goose egg in their championship column! LOL!

IPTAY - the reason that Klimmsin has always been able to recruit. Why else would anyone choose that little bitty school in the middle of nowhere to go to school?

I wasn't mocking. Everything I said about Clemson is true. You off the Butch train now after the Vandy loss?

Have never been on the Butch train. I'm skeptical til he proves he can do the job.

I'm impressed with his recruiting, but completely unimpressed with the job he's done as a HC.

Regardless, anyone being dismissive of Swinney and his staff when it comes to recruiting isn't paying attention.

Surprised this guy is not already on your ignore.

He used to be but I took him off after he seemed to be positive in the recruiting forum lately. But now that we're going to miss a bowl I'm sure he and many others are going to be negative all off season and beyond. It amazes me that so many posters predicted 4-5 wins and now that's it's happened they're crying about it. I guess they thought missing a bowl was going to be pretty?

Back to ignore land...

You can think a team is going to lose and still expect more than what you see.

See Arky in '11. There hasn't been anything near that bad, but there have been problems.
