Yeah. Most recent example I remember is in the Fiesta Bowl last year. PAT was blocked, defender recovered it at the 2, carried it into the end zone, was tackled and Oregon got a 1 point safety.

Y! SPORTS

I was going to ask how it was even possible to get a safety on a PAT. That answers my question.

Starting to look like an anomaly

Yeah, plus we didn't match up as well against the last three teams. Our team was exhausted, and I'm sure their confidence is no longer very high. Lots of factors.

I've also gone back and rematched those UGA and USCe games. The crowd really, really helped disrupt the opposing offenses at various points.

Almost like we spent all the fuel in our tank ... Like a fighter swinging for the fences early

How in the hell did we play such a great defensive game against SC, when we've sucked against all other top 10 opponents? Has anyone figured that out yet?

If I recall USCe helped us a lot. They dropped a lot of passes early...then they started killing us by running Davis...then at the end of the game they went away from the run game.

I think Spurrier coached himself right out of that game.

It should be noted that USCe has pedestrian receivers so they couldn't take advantage of our secondary (specifically the nickel position).

However, we certainly play better against offenses that are more "pro-style" oriented. Which gives me some comfort regarding Vandy.

Vandy QB got belted.

Knocked the f out... Great hit. Thought for sure they'd call targeting. His helmet was halfway off and twisted on his face... Lol

Thought Cecil cherry had suited up for ky for a sec

unfortunately, I agree. This version of the Vols does not have significant talent advantage over VU/KY...that's why we need to put pressure on the areas we are more talented. Our running game specifically.

Yep. I'm glad CBJ is emphasizing being physical. That will help. We are better at the line of scrimmage and seem to have better running backs. Not sure how much better we are every where else when you consider athleticism and experience.

I'm more nervous about these games than I've been in a while. It really help if we won them. Not the end of the world if we don't, but I do think that would affect recruiting a little going forward.

Yes, UT hasn't looked good the last few games (vs. top 10 opponents) but these two teams (UK and Vandy) are really bad. I can't see a scenario where we lose to either one of these teams. If we lose to either one of these teams it's all on the coaching staff. No excuses.

the good thing is that neither KY or Vandy look very sharp right now.

Also, I gotta believe the night game in Neyland will have a HUGE impact. The crowd will want blood...the cry for revenge will be full throat.

I believe Vandy will have to out play the Vols by 2 scores to win the game close because of the intangibles of crowd/the Vols so desparate for a Bowl game.

I am convinced it was mostly pure emotion coming off the GA game. GA was beat up and we played the best we can play. Even though we lost the emotion carried over to SC and we happened to catch SC at just the right time. I other words, for the first time in a long time we caught all the breaks. Unfortunately against AL, MO, and AU reality set in.

I could see a loss to vandy considering our anemic passing game. JF is pretty smart and I'd guess he'd pick on aj if he wanted some first downs. All the other good coaches have. But if that happens yeah it would be on the coaches. Can't ask aj to do something he can't do, cover anyone.

If our gameplan isn't all about running it down their throats 1st, 2nd and 3rd down I'm going to be disappointed. We should be able to get 400 yards on the ground vs. Vandy.

Ron I can dig your enthusiasm but Vandy isn't a "really bad" team.

I disagree.

I think that is unrealistic/inaccurate.

Whether we want to admit it or not both of these teams have beaten us over the last two seasons.

I can see a scenario where either/both teams beat us. I'm not being pessimistic because I actually think we will win both. However, a couple of turnovers (which has little to nothing to do with coaches) can turn either game against us. We may be better than Vandy/KY but not so much so that we can overcome several player mistakes.

For my part, I won't be turning on the coaching staff if we lose one of these. But I know many in Volnation will. This attitude in our fanbase is why we will really, really struggle to find a good coach if CBJ struggles early and we have to fire him before he's had time to build up the roster.

I'm close to believing Tennessee is a dead end job. New coaches have no chance or grace here.

I disagree.

Then we should see 9 in the box then. Some balance would make me more confident. It's a toss up in my mind, considering they beat ga and fla in the swamp no less.... Something we were unable to do.
