I think this is true. I think Petersen is an example of a guy who can do more with less. I think Richt is an example of a guy who does less with more. Saban I think just plays it straight up, nothing revolutionary, because he knows he has the better athletes. I don't think he's a bad coach. His teams tend to be disciplined and make few mistakes but his edge is in his personnel. I'm beginning to think Butch may be a better coach than Saban. We'll see how it turns out over the next few years once we get a competitive roster. He sure made Spurrier look confused.
Another question:
Why do you think Saban wasn't successful in the NFL?
He is arguably one of the best ever on the collegiate level.
And there have been plenty of coaches successfully make the jump.
So why not him?
Agree with other thoughts in his interactions towards NFL players, but the answer to this question is really simple as this:
Saban wanted Drew Brees, team docs wouldn't approve, team picks up Dante Culpepper. NFL is QB driven league and the rest is history. Saban gets Brees and he may still be in Miami, at least that's how my dream ends.

We had an opportunity to get a quarterback in Drew Brees or Daunte Culpepper and we probably missed out on the physical well-being of those two players; we took the guy that we felt was more healthy, and he wasnt healthy, Saban said. No disrespect to him; he did the best he could, Daunte Culpepper. Drew Brees didnt have any problems and ended up having a great career. Had that been different, I think wed have made our team a lot better.
Saban is good. It's hard to go 8-4 and 9-3 at mich state. He also was owned by Pittsburg when coordinating for bellichek. He's the perfect example of the jimmy and joes vs the X's and O's argument. He had no idea how to motivate that Miami team.
Agreed. He couldn't use his only method of motivation, which is fear, on guys who were veterans in the league.
At the same time, show me someone who saw that brees was gonna be that good given his size, and that culpepper was gonna be that bad. In college you can have 4 or 5 stud qb's on your team. In the nfl you get enough cap room to pay for 1. I don't fault saban for not seeing the future on Bree's. He's still an automaton tho. Would suck to play for him unless you feel like a champion outtalenting every team in America save for 4 or 5 teams.
I could be crazy but I do see CBJ winning here at a level unheard of in the modern era for ut. He has a system that works, he is a motivator, he is a helluva coach, and most importantly what many thought he might struggle at and that is he is an elite recruiter.
Buckle up boys. Tn football is about to get really fun.
