Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

If we can put the hat on Yeldon's fumbling as and make him turn it over, we can hold it down on D.
For certain, we can't keep coming away with 0 -3 points when we start in + territory or around the 50. Those have to be touchdown vs Bama
The problem could be them finding ways to match #9 up on Coleman and Toney.

Will Riyhad be healthy enough to compete?

Can we keep pressure off JW by staying out of 3rd and longs?

I ain't scared of no Bama defenders. There's no game changer.

Another game winner for Palardy! ? I'll allow it!!!!

**you smell that? ?? It's Dooley Stench free. He's out of our system. Our team fights like our great Vol teams. These *****s can't hold us back.

Amen. It's been easy to be skeptical it'll soon be hard to be skeptical with the way this team is fighting. Win or lose you have to love the fight in this team.

UGA was supposed to blow us out and USC was supposed to run all all over us with Shaw and Davis and win big too.

Like I said, if we beat Bama, which I think we will, our fans will start to believe again and no longer think we're going to lose. It's coming...

I'm completely bought into Butch. Have been for awhile now.

Those two teams aren't on Bama's level. A healthy UGA team would have made that game a lot different. I believe in CBJ, just not on Bama's level yet. Emphasis on "yet."

I wish. Everything I've seen on VQ & 247 point to him being a ways off from a rust and conditioning standpoint. At this point in the season, I had hoped one of the newcomers would come along enough to allow Coleman to move to nickel.

Butch Jones says we are third in the country in total attendance. After years of horrible football that says a lot about the Volunteer nation. Hate it when someone says we have horrible fans. We have the best damn fans in the nation.

Play calling on 1st and 2nd down need more imagination. Will help a lot with the 3rd and longs IMO.

ESPN Hot and Not. SIAP.

HOT

Marquez North's catch: In each of his last two games, the Tennessee freshman receiver has made fabulous catches. He had a toe-tapping 19-yard touchdown catch against Georgia on Oct. 5 and followed that up with the play of the game (and maybe the catch of the year) in Tennessee’s 23-21 win over South Carolina. On third-and-10, North pulled in a 39-yard heave from Justin Worley with his left hand as he was falling backward to keep the Vols’ game-winning drive alive.

NOT

South Carolina in the fourth quarter: The fourth quarter hasn’t been kind to the Gamecocks this season, and their late woes caught up to them in their 23-21 loss at Tennessee. They managed just 12 total yards in the fourth quarter against the Vols and seemed to forget that Mike Davis, the SEC’s leading rusher, was on the field.

I was completely surprised USCe did not decide to just run the ball with Davis majority of the snaps in the 4th qtr. I'm glad they didn't. :)

0StarGeneral-isms from his most recent FF thread:

  • "the volsnation"
  • "the country of the united states"
  • "lowering his shoulder into a Cock"
  • "criticizement"
  • "Taylor bray"
  • "the debate about Worley is here!!!!!!!!!!!!"

These need to be hammered in stone and placed at the foot of the General's statue for posterity.

Agreed. I think up to this point a lot of the focus has been on not committing turnovers and trying to get Worley in a groove. We've seen how creative he can get on his playcalling when we need it. I'm not too worried at this point.

That's why I couldn't believe that we had won. Seemed so obvious to just feed Davis the ball or fake it to him and let Shaw keep it, or run play-action and hit a receiver downfield. All those seemed to guarantee yards for their offense. And yet, they didn't.

In one of the articles on 247 it says we intend to sign 31 in the 2015 cycle.. how is it that possible? misprint?

currently, tennessee is one of the bigger surprises nationally in the 2014 cycle. For a program that hasn’t won more than seven games in a season since 2007, the success on the recruiting trail with the nation’s no. 4 class has opened some eyes. Credit has to be given to head coach butch jones’ new staff, the enthusiasm around new schemes on both sides of the ball and presenting possible early playing under a new regime. The vols are also blessed to have mega-recruiter tommy thigpen, who has led the way in landing 13 commits this cycle alone.

Tennessee isn’t done yet. According to sources, the Vols intend to sign up to 30 in this cycle meaning at least three more gets. The word inside the program is that they feel they are in the best shape with four-star wide receiver Josh Malone (who they are battling Clemson and Georgia on), four-star defensive end Andrew Williams (in a fight with Auburn, Ole Miss and Clemson), Evan Berry and Elliott Berry (the younger brothers of Vols great Eric Berry and both 247Sports Crystal Ball projections to Tennessee) and JUCO defensive tackle Jarran Reed who just took an official visit over the weekend (battling Ole Miss, Florida and Arkansas). The Vols felt great about landing JUCO four-star wide receiver Lavon Pearson going into the weekend and he made a pledge on Sunday morning.

Moving forward, word is that the Volunteers plan on signing a big class in the 2015 cycle, possibly up to 31 deep, as well as the new staff continues to overhaul the inherited roster. Also keep an eye on the Volunteers down the stretch to possibly steal a quarterback in this class. They don’t have one committed right now but according to sources they are in the market trying to find one behind the scenes. They inked a pair in Riley Ferguson and Joshua Dobbs in the 2013 class. Remember they got Dobbs to flip from Arizona State late last cycle. That’s the idea again this go round, too
